and how do presas act around cats and small dogs?

With my experience, generally the presas are dog agressive and few will be tolerant to yappy annoying, dominant little dogs. Cats, good luck! lol. But there are exceptions to every rule, if you bring your puppy up around these animals, there is a good chance they will accept them and be tolerant of them. Socializing is key with these dogs, but even with all your best intentions, you still have a Presa and need to aware of what the consequences can be, which might be to have to separate them, etc. My 19month old is doing better than he did at 12 months, i couldnt bring him around other male dogs or small dogs, now after continuing socializing and giving him some time to mature he is able to be at the dog park and around all kinds of dogs. The only thing i need watch out for is another extremely dominant male, cause then its on.

see that is what I'm worried about my neighborhood has lots of stray cats and possums that come in my backyard. and the people across the street from me have three mean ass little yappy chihuahuas that are aggressive to people and larger dogs, with a dog like a presa it would only take seconds for something tragic to happen to one of them, that is why I was asking.

I have a Presa. He's the best. My dog is not aggressive towards other dogs at all, unless they are being aggressive towards him, like through a fence or something. He gets along very well with my other dog and only chases the cats occasionally to play. If he catches them he just rolls them over and licks them. It just depends on the dog and what it is raised with. I got him at 6 months and he was on a chain before the city seized him, but he's really good with other animals. He does pretty good with people unless that person is making me uncomfortable somehow. My Presa goes to the dog park a lot (it's about 15 acres of woods) and he has to stay on lead, but only because he will jump right into the river and refuse to come out.

I agree with PresaDogue... I find that in our yard they are more protective and come off more aggressive as if they are protecting it.. We had an incident in our yard where a cat climed the fence and let's say it didn't end well.. My male and my female are fixed/neutered and they are still dominant.. On a leash they are great.. But it takes time and practice.. I can walk them with family members dogs.. But off leash they dOnt play well with other.. Especially my male with other males... But he loves the ladies lol lol... My female, not so much.. She's the queen bee and doesn't tolerate any other animals outside of our puppy, lab mix... I had also socialized my dogs since I got them, they were always with me, but you can't change genetics

I would deffinatly recommend introducing the pup to the cats early on

Sorry one other thought.. My dogs wernt raised with cats so I can't say for sure how they would be with a cat they grew up with... And I must say.. A presa is like any other mastiff in the sense that they are very affectionate.. I grew up with golden retrievers and I would have to say my presas are 100x more affectionate.. I will always own a presa :)

And.. My dogs from the yard one day when a gate was stupidly left open and they didn't do anything.. They even ran into the dog they share a fance with; they went into the neighbors yard (and seem to hate that dog though the fence) and they were fine lol No fights.. No mad neighbors.. Maybe frightened neighbors but thats beside the point lol lol So who knows.. That one even stumped me..

Thanks!! Nice DDB, my Renasence Bulldig kinda looked like that, except on a smaller scale. I posted a pic on my Intro thread. I strongly recommend the Presa.

Thank you :) Yes, our male Ramos is not typical at all and we dont know much about his sires bloodline. And our female Lorena is very small. But I think the breed becomes more and more homogeneous, and it should. :)

I got a 6 mo old Reverse Brindle male named Diesel Fuego De Volcanes. He has such a great temperament and drive to please me. He is already 85 pounds! He is still intact and I hope to breed him one day. He was first pick of a litter of 8. Does that mean he has less stressed genetics b/c of low litter number?

I've seen a few threads with members giving advice and information on Presa's, then later saying they do not even own a Presa. Seems like some people like to talk.. I'd love advice from owners on obedience training..

I've had a Presa for 8 years. He's now a big ball of love that craves attention, but for the first 2 years we had him he was an absolute terror. We rescued him from the shelter I volunteered at. Some guy bought him as a guard dog originally, he got off his chain and hit by a car at 6 months old. Owner wouldn't pay for surgery, the rescue did and then eventually I got him. Unfortunately while in the shelter he killed a cat and a small dog, so we've been very careful with him ever since, but he is fine with non-aggressive dogs now. He still snatches birds out of the air if they fly in to the yard, but he's best friends with my one Bull Mastiff. He's super protective of my wife and he hurt someone that broke in to our house one night pretty badly.

Long story short, he's an absolute sweetheart with me, my wife and people that come over when we're home. He likes to sit on the couch with our friends and cuddle. He's very protective. He's very well behaved generally and has a Canine Good Citizen title and has been a therapy dog several times. We don't do that anymore since he bit the home invader, just to be safe. He does have a mind of his own, and combined with his massive size and insane athleticism it can be a challenge. When he was younger he regularly jumped my 6ft fence without touching it and took off on his own. For the vast majority of people I would not recommend the breed, but if you have experience with big, athletic dogs, they can be great companions. He sleeps every night sharing my wife's pillow and he's the most incredible dog I've ever had.

We had a Presa who died in July at age 7, very sad. We adopted him as a rescue only 2 years ago so we knew nothing about his background except that he was very mellow when we met him and the foster mom said he was extremely well mannered. He turned out to be the best dog I ever knew, we were so lucky to have him even for just 2 years. No aggression towards other dogs or cats. When we would go for walks and other dogs would bark from their yards or on their leash, he just ignored them. He got along fine with my Dad's little yappy dog and when we brought home a rescue kitten he just accepted it with resignation. If the kitty got in his face while he was eating he just walked away. He was standoffish with strangers, which is typical of the breed, and he had a particular "human profile" that he didn't care for -- young men of a certain age and build really bugged him and he was much more watchful around them, sometimes growling very softly.
