that's great! i do not know anyone else who owns Presas, accept the breeders i got mine from but they are not local and i do not have any contact with them anymore... do you have family dogs or do you breed?

My presa is a family pet, i went in with the possibility of breeding some day, but we will see. I did get pick of the litter, and if i where to breed, it would be back with one of the females from the breeder i got him from. He is 16 months now and is everything i could ask for in a dog. Presas are a very well rounded breed and along with my female Dogue, i have the best of both worlds imo. I have done some OB training with him, and also had some temperment tests done as well. He is more defensive driven than prey driven, so he doesn't do well with the sleeve, but he does go after the decoy. Great guard dog, and family pet. how are your presas' temperments?

They are family dogs.... temperament is my over all question for other presa owners... i bought my male first and then bought my female when he was two with the idea to breed also... When she turned a year old i got them both fixed...I regret it, i wish i hadnt... but i fixed them because im only 25 years old, just graduated with my masters and am trying to get my career and personal life situated first... I didn't want to just breed to breed... I plan to start a kennel in the future when i buy my next home... i love dogs...

I would have loved to have gotten them temperament tested... my female was apparently tested by the breeder as a puppy and was deemed aloof... she's not.. lol

My male has a VERY protective nature... ... no one can come in my home or near the family... I have not done any training with him... before he was fixed he had high drive but since he's been fixed he is a little bit more tolerant and calm... he does not tolerate any other male dogs..

My female is the dominant one of the two... she hates other dogs... she is extremely protective of the house and the family...

They are the most loving dogs i have ever owned... they are so affectionate with us, each other and people they trust (mainly family) but any outsiders or people they do not know, they require my fiance or myself to acknowledge that its ok, and even then they have a strong presence as if standing guard.. which i prefer.. I think the presas in general just have that natural instinct

My male has saddly killed a cat that got into our yard... it was awful... extremely powerful breed

they have never fraught with one another... and get along great...

We recently rescued a female lab/akita mix... and they all get along great... They are great with anything any anyone in the home/family but not with anything outside of their family

Why did you decide you wanted a Presa?

French mastiffs are great too! beautiful breed

I was looking for a Guardian breed and looked at the Cane Corso, American Bulldog, Dogue de Bordeaux, and then i found out about the Presa. I had gotten my female Bordeaux and wanted a much more serious dog, witch is how i chose the Presa of course. I had done a lot of homework before the decision, and then found a local breeder here who has outstanding bloodlines and takes great care of his dogs. We ended up being great friends too. I get to help at the kennels, train the dogs, its a good time. My boy does not tolerate other males either, and has also growled and circled people who ive let in the house, but that is not allowed of course, once I make a decision to let someone in, he needs to accept it. That is all recent, but can be expected since he is getting into that young adult stage. Very serious dog, not for the beginner or even intermediate dog owner. i am glad you had made the decision to fix your dogs, very smart of you.

That's the same reason I got the presa.. Did my ho
Ework to.. Ive always had dogs but theres nothing like a presa.. Love the breed.. My fiancée father moved to Georgia, and fond out about the breed through him.. My problem is I couldn't/can't find a breeder that was local.. My femal is from a back yard breeder.. And my male.. Well I thought they were good.. But ended up not so much.. I learned my lesson relying on websites, email and telephone, you just never know..There are no breeders in my state (Rhode Island), that I can find.. I would LOVE to volunteer or even just form a relationship with a breeder for the future..

I was actually looking into getting another puppy, but I couldn't find a breeder I wanted... So I ended up rescuing my mix.. I didnt want to buy just to buy... We decided the next one we do get we want first pick from champion lines.. Paying the price is worth it... But that won't be for a while.. RI only allows 3 dogs per house hold unless you have a kennel licence (which requires 3+ acees) I will always have presas..

Which breeder do you work with And where?

This is why I joined the forum.. Mostly to talk and make connections for the future.. It's hard with rare breeds.. Especially living in New England

My pup is from Carlosrossicanarios out of Tracy California. There are other good breeders out there such as D & G kennels, Sanders, Rey Gladiator, cielo de canarias, guadalcan, Ironpress kennels, and of course the original Irema Curto. These are all reputable kennels in the states and abroad. I wish you luck with your training and possible future breeding, and yes, it is worth paying the money for some good blood! I just posted a couple of recent pics on the photography section.

Thank you for that info... actually its funny because Sander's Kennel is the one we plan to go through in the future with his father being in Georgia it is more accessable for us

Thanks for the chat and all the good information, i learned a lot :) You gave me a lot to think about for my future.. i did decide i do not want to own a kennel because i like family dogs an dthe affection of the Presa :)

Good luck with showing and breeding :)

I can only speak for the presa... I have done research on the corso but i know more about presas... Presas are a very powerful breed; also stubborn... they dont back down, they require a stable, stong human family to keep them in check... aside from their protective nature they are just like any other mastiff breed... they are the most loving/affectionate dogs i have ever had... if your seriously considering a presa or a corso, they are both very strong breeds... i just recommend doing your home work... if you look hard enough their are books out there on the Presa... find a breeder, meet their dogs and ask questions....

my only suggestion... male presas do not like other male dogs regardless of if they are fixed or not... if you would have two male dogs it may require more training, and clear boundries

How would you presa owners comapre your dogs to the cane corso? I'm torn between both breeds.

I am biased of course since i do own a presa. But when i was looking for a Guardian breed Corso's were 1st on my list, until i came across and did my research on the Presa. It of course depends on the dog, but in general i would say the Presa is a much more fiery,Hardcore breed, more powerful, both very trainable but when it comes to protection training i would give the edge to the Presa. I like the fact that the presa hasn't been "ruined" by all the byb's (yet), you get a much more rustic, true to its origin type dog, more consistent in type, temperment. Of course you would still have to find a great breeder, and, yes there are the byb and the guys who are crossing them, but what i am saying is that its a lot less than most other mastiff breeds. Then of course you have the looks, what is your preference, a leggy, shorter nosed type, or generally stockier, thicker type. Ive seen some gorgeous Corso's, very large too, wich would be my preference. My Presa is only 105lbs, but is 17mths old, and will probly top out at 115-120lbs, healthier, more agile, and better for their joints. I think either dog would be a fantastic choice, great addition to any family, the presa in my opinion would take a stronger handler and excellent, consistent training, but in the end would make for the better overall dog.

I don't know a lot about Presa but I like the presa tx as well. I have to say that out of the males, I think Robusto is beautiful.
