  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Any thoughts what he's mixed with?

Hank, 115#, about 25" at the shoulder, looks through and through Boerboel to me, aside from being a tad light and having a mottled tongue. Thanks in advance!

Maybe some Boerboel in him but the nails being white/pink tell me something else is dominant. Could he be Tosa mix?
First thing I noticed was his eyes. He is in pain with looks like a bad case of entropia or some sort of conjunctivitis.

I also see some chow or sharpei in this dog is his tongue black or spotted? Chows and Boerboels can both have problems with entropia.

He looks Tosa-ish, but he's only 115 pounds and around 3 years old, so ought to be done growing...right? I got him from a shelter last Monday, so don't know much of his history. He had entropion surgery on both eyes on Sep 5, check up on 9/14 found ripped sutures on upper left. Had them removed about two weeks ago. I inquired about their appearance at my vet, she said it looks normal considering recent suture removal. He doesn't mess with them whatsoever, so I assume they're not bugging him. Also, his tongue is spotted, only a few small patches of black. Thanks Mike.

Fine looking dog Adam he is luckey to have been rescued by you. Did the Vet recommend any eye drops, or does he think there will be less swelling eventually?

Trevitacr, Don't bother listening to folks that know about the breed, take the advice of someone who has a pet dog that everyone else claims is a mix.... what is it that they say... As long as YOU believe it is a boerboel and it acts like a boerboel in your eyes then it must be a pure bred boerboel or maybe just a poorly bred one, lol. I'm just joking ofcourse. It doesnt look purebred to me neither but then again I'm no expert in SABs.

Thanks dogman, appreciate it. Regardless of what he is, I'm going to love the lug. Only had him a week and he's already brightening my day. My other dog is still warming up to the idea, but I can tell deep down he agrees with my decision. :) Mike, as far as drops go, vet didn't suggest anything topical, more just to keep an eye on it, watch out for any changes. I think he's finally accepted the fact that I'm his new dad and not going anywhere, which is nice cause he's calmed down a tad (enough that both he and I can get a little sleep at night) and he's finally beginning to listen and take cues from Oscar (other dog). Keep you posted.
