  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Any ideas of what's going on.

I'm lost/done gonna have to let the Vet figure this one out. It's best anyways. Just make sure to keep her hydrated.

That's how I feel. She is drinking so that's good. I really wish I wasn't at work. The family I work for just had the dad come home from a year deployment the other day and I didn't want to cancel on them last minute, this is their first date night in a year.

She's eating, and drinking, and otherwise going potty normally.....I donno, the blood worries me, but if she's not otherwise acting sick.....That one's going to be a judgement call on whether or not to make it an evisit or not.

Yah. Where everything else appears normal I can understand the hesitation to make an emergency visit. But the blood in the stool worries me too. On the other hand it IS possible, that if she got constipated, that the blood is simply the result of the iritated tissues in the colon.....so I donno....

Is it a lot of blood? It can happen that a bone may nick the stomach and cause some blood in the stools. Titan had the same thing happen when he first started raw. I checked the message board I would frequent when first starting raw and they told me that it was normal as long as there was not a lot of blood and it stopped after a day or so.

To put your mind at ease, take her to the vet. She's eating, drinking, and acting normal so I would say it the nick of the stomach and should be ok. But I'm no vet.

I, like you, freaked out a little when I saw the blood but Titan was ok.

Hera had this for a couple of days a while back just a small amount of blood in her poop, i took her to the vet and she said she probably ate a stick or something when i took her for a walk and she was trying to poop it. So she told me to monitor for 2-3 days and if it stopped then that was it. Could she have eaten something likee a stick or a rock? The vet told me that if its not a large amount of blood in the poop i shouldnt worry much as long as it sops after 2-3 days, given that i was aware she was going through a fase of eating sticks and rocks, not anymore thank god.

I'm not sure as to what exactly is going on. This morning she had diarrhea again but there was no obvious blood. Since we have a vet visit scheduled in less than 24 hours I torn between brining her to the emergency vet and just waiting. I have today off so I will probably just keep a close eye on her. She is acting otherwise normal, but I do think something is going on with her stomach or intestines.

Also, do you think I should fast her today?

If she's acting hungry, and isn't currently showing blood, then go ahead and feed her IMO. It'd be different if she was vomitting.

So... how'd the vet visit go??? Denna's had some blood spots before - but she's also passed some pretty good bone chunks (the rawfeeder group said that was normal, no worries). She never had more than a spot or two on a single BM for the week, so I chocked it up to something scraping by on it's way out. Lovely image, I know... hopefully that's all Stella's dealing with. I'm sure this doesn't improve your BF's feelings toward raw feeding... sigh. Hope she gets the all-clear at the vet!

Just got done at the vet. She has an infection in her intestines and mild vaginitus. He prescribed some antibiotics. We think she could have gotten it from drinking this muddy water. The other day I found her behind our shed lapping up old muddy water that smelled like sewage. Forget the amazing filtered water in the home, Stella prefers swamp water, better flavor I suppose.

I had him look in her ears and mouth and everything looks great. He was vet impressed by her AND he supported my raw diet. He also said he has NEVER had a dog come in with impacted intestines or perforated intestines from chicken bones (but he did remind to not feed cooked ones). He said he mainly has issues with things like toys and other objects.

Overall it was a good visit. He suggested I do the blood test and hip testing when she gets spayed.

Great news that it's not something serious. During the spring and early summer I have a creek in my back yard that creates these green algae puddles. My dogs love that water, it gives them gas but there is no way for me to stop them from drinking from them. Sometimes they drink the fresh flowing snow pack water but not as much as the green stuff.

yah, dogs love smelly water *sigh* I don't know anyway around that one except keep them away from it and thats not always possible.

And good vet!
