Hi I'm Kathy! I'm getting a bandogge mastiff. Mom is a french/English mix. Dad is a dogo. If anyone has pics, please share!

Seem's like quite a mix, but from what i know that's not a Bandogge. A bandogge is a mastiff x a bully breed.

The dogo might count for that. And some bandogges have shepherd in the mix too, theres no hard and fast rule.

What really makes a Bandogge, vs a mutt, is the care that goes into breeding. Are the parents health tested? What was the breeder's goal in breeding and what is your expectation of the pup? Do you have any mastiff experience?

Crazy thought here kids, maybe we can start a "what makes a bandog" thread, preferably in the controversial section and let the OP have her intro thread back...

When I first got into bandogs(10 years ago) and liked Workingclass kennels and read a lot about john swinford. It was always my understanding the Bandog Mastiff is only a Pit/Neo mix.Though John Swinford used English mastiffs and Pits early, he switched to neos later.

Now I see all kinds of mixed looking dogs called bandogs, which may be true if bandog is to be a term meaning "mixed protection dog" which is what they were bred for. But when I hear "bandog Mastiff'' I think Pit/Neo only. I don't believe the term American Bandog Mastiff really came around till people like Workingclass, and Chimera kennels started breeding.

Some breeders today still have Joe Lucero line dogs. However the bandog seems to be all over the place now in looks and breeds. I do really like the dogs from west coast bandog though..AMAZING! two of her dogs.

for the OP's original question... I doubt anyone has a pic of that particular mix. A bandogge is just that, a mix. Being a mix it is difficult to say what it can or will look like, seeing that it has 3 breeds in it makes it that much more difficult to determine how it will look or act like. Bandogges are any mixture of a mastiff type dog with any bully breed. some people consider the dogo a bully breed and some a mastiff breed... It is really, in its roots, a bandogge of sorts itself. The dogo has bred true for generations making it a breed unlike a true bandogge which is a recent cross bred dog. Most bandogges that you see today are neopolitan mastiffs bred with gamebred bulldogs (APBT) but you can have any multiple different breeds being used. Hope this helps.

So i was right a bandogge has to be a mixture of both? Can a bandogge be a mastiff x shepherd, i was told they can be.

Indeed it can be...there are actually a few who do these mixes...my boy is Ambull/Neo and dutchie....I think this may be the first lasting Bandog thread btw lol, to bad school has absorbed so much of my time...if you look at an old thread of mine you'll get the more abstract view of what a bandog is....in Aus allot of those breeds are banned like the APBT but there bandogs are mostly just random crosses, collie, IWH, anything plus the mastiff some with bully some without... a bandog is a working mastiff called a bandog because its a mutt and has no other purebred name...thats all....Lee of chimera kennels is a personal friend of mine, he also doesnt use the common Neo route but used the APBT...different strokes, they just have to work that is paramount...

But does the dog have to have bully and mastiff? Dr. Swinford had created the Bandogge to be a English mastiff and a performance-proven American pitbull terrier, a long with several Bull terriers. Adding a shepherd to the mix, would just lose size and power would it not, but also it may add some drive. "The Loose term is any mastiff bred to any bully breed is a bandogge. There will never be a standard from this. Presa Canario, Cane Corso are mastiff mixes and if used would have other genetics mixed in". I pulled this off Bluejaykennels. Dog's like Chimera's, mindchangingkennels, nightwatchmankennels stick to bullies and mastiffs.

Ruth Catrin i know what he said, his dog is a neo/pit/shepherd therefore his dog does have both bully and mastiff.

My dog has zero APBT in them... I just think you need to get off the sideline and go train some dogs man... Swinford was making fighting dogs and was far from the start of the bandog...so dont reference him...there are allot of programs that aren't plastering there dogs on the internet...with mixes that would blow your mind... you have a case of someone who reads to much without actually training raising and being around real dogs and real breeders...once you do, you'll realize most of what your spewing is hyped propaganda to sell dogs to people who believe that a dogs head size correlates to bite strength. .. I keep telling you but you seem to dance around it...so the best thing would be to find out on your own...get out there put a sleeve on get dirty with a fresh litter and get around real bandog folk

Mind changing kennels and Chimera kennels are decent guys I know them both you'd get good dogs from them.. I don't know anything about night watchman but I'm not impressed...

I"ve heard "iffy" things about both kennels but I don't know the breeders nor have I seen any of their dogs in action. I LOVED it when they had Ceasar though. :( Sad to see him go.

You're right think i need to get out there, and really get some bites. Rather than speculating that whole video. But what does factor a dog's bite force, jaws, head, size? And by APBT i meant Bulldog. Nightwatchman kennels wasn't as appealing as some other kennels, seem's like they are mixing big dog's to big dog's and hoping to come across a... Anyway from what i see Chimerakennels has Swinford on they page, i never knew about the dog fighting with Swinford, else i wouldn't have brang up Swinford's name. From a site: This is because intention of quality Bandog breeders should be to combine the courage, tenacity, health, and athletic ability of the American Pit Bull Terrier with the larger size, power, and guarding instinct of the Mastiff.

A dutch shepherd/bull/neo, that's interesting i never heard of a mix like that before cronos.

Swinford was the beginning and Lee knows them more intimately but there is a reason Lees dogs are no longer call Swinfords...ALLOT of people dont like those 2 kennels (more they dont like the owners) I know them more personally and you'll get a good dog...now if you will like conversating with them is subjective ...why would bite strength matter number one and just get a dog whos a decent size that enjoys biting and its enough...man your really focused completely in the wrong direction.... you should be worried about drives and temperament not size and bite strength....the truth is there is no way to actually gauge bite strength and no way to make a dog bite its hardest on command....
