Allergy Testing? Anyone of you have it done before?

I have to say that I gave Magnum his second injection tonight and I really hate it. Lol He doesn't even notice me doing it but I'm a big baby when it comes to needles. I'm sure it will bother me less as time passes and I get used to it but for now..I hate it! Lol

I just started my own allergy injections, got my second set yesterday. I'm used to needles,I use them daily on cats, dogs, cattle (and those are HUGE needles!), etc, but am a huge wimp when it comes to getting injections myself, lol. And of course I have to get two injections twice weekly, one in each arm. I always have to look away. My testing showed that I'm highly allergic to dogs, cats, horses, and all types of grass, so I think they did animals in one vial and plants in the other. Not fun! But good for Magnum for not being bothered by it! That makes things easier on everyone.

Oh, I would too! Is the needle a long one?

At least he's being so good about it; kind of surprising since Danes have no body fat, lol.

LOL. You are allergic to all of the animals you touch everyday? That sucks! I'm not sure how well it would go over if I had to get the injections. Magnum is totally unaware I'm
Doing it....he doesn't react to shots at the vet either. All of his are in one vial but the amount of each changes from vial to vial. I just hope it works.

No, Suanne it is a tiny needle and doesn't go into the muscle at all but I a big ass baby!! Lol I'm so glad he doesn't care because that would totally stress me out and we would be going to the vet paying for an office visit every four days. LMAO

Yes.....yes I am, lol. Not to mention the ones I live with! I used to just deal with the symptoms, but then I started having multiple asthma attacks daily, including at night when I was trying to sleep. Not being able to breathe would wake me up, and when I eventually was able to go back to sleep, I'd just dream about using my inhaler over and over and over. So that's when I had to suck it up and start the injections, lol.

Keep us updated on if it helps Magnum, although I know it will take quite a while to be able to tell. I just came off of a derm rotation, and we had rechecks on 4 different dogs that had been on the injections for variable amounts of time. Two owners thought they helped significantly, and two didn't really feel like they were making too much of a difference (although one lady was not administering them correctly). So it seems to be hit or miss. But I think that since it's the only way to actually address the allergy itself rather than the symptoms, it's worth a shot. Hang in there!

Yeah, I would say it was time to just do it for you. I'm hoping it works for him...I'm REALLY hoping. I know it takes some time. The vet said he has had the same issues with a couple owners forgetting the injections so it is so hard to tell. I have it set up on a reminder so I never forget and the dosage booklet is very clear so I should be good on that side anyway. Thank you. I'll keep you updated. :)

I just realized I never updated this. Within a few injections Magnum stopped itching completely and his fur grew in so beautiful and thick. He has been on the maintenance dose for awhile now (every 7 days) and I can say that this is the best money I have ever spent and I would recommend it to anyone having skin problems with their dogs.

That's awesome! I started the hypo injections for Rhaegar too back in November. We're also at the maintenance dose. His itching has improved, but still waiting on his inflamed, infected feet to respond. We're still having to do daily wipes to keep them happy.
