Allergy flare up on neck?

We switched foods because Hector started getting pustule around his throat and bumps down his back. I didn't discover it until it already scabbed. Okay no big deal. I am not sure what caused a flare up on his neck. A collar or maybe the new food? Anyway it had not completely healed and was getting red. Then yesterday I had forgotten about the irritated area and put a 2" collar on him and took him out. Came home and remembered to look at his neck because he kept doing full body shakes. Looked at the area and more bumps appeared and some areas looked very raw, like infected. Okay...so of course there was no neosporin or antibacterial spray in the house. Then I thought of the styptic powder used to stop bleeding on nails. It also has antibacterial properties so I dusted his neck with the powder and it looks so much better today! Banixx spray will be here tomorrow. Blah, felt really bad for the boy.

I have heard of some dogs being allergic to nickel in metal collars. Just like humans that have to buy hypoallergenic jewelry etc. I'm not sure if that would translate to bumps down his back too though. You haven't changed fabric softeners or detergents any time recently have you?

No, nothing has changed in the laundry dept. Yes, some dogs have metal allergies, but I know he doesn't. The nickel part doesn't touch his neck. The area was healing, but started to flare up and then the collar rubbed against it so it made it raw. Maybe all this is from a reaction to his liquid glucosamine and some of the new treats. This is the second time this area became infected. First time was from his seresto flea collar that gave him a chemical burn.

I must be a lucky SOB. I've never had anything crazy like that happen to any dog I've ever owned {KNOCK ON WOOD}. The only thing I've ever seen even remotely like that is when I had a really bad sunburn. I passed out face down in the sand. If any of you have seen me, I'm extremely white and only my neck and my arms(from t-shirt sleeve down) tan. Everything else burns and blisters. The blisters were so bad they popped and my back looked just like Hector's neck. Poor freakin guy. I feel so bad for him. I'd give him a chicken leg, let him eat off my plate, use my pillow while sleeping in my bed, and anything else I could think of because i feel bad for him =(

Hahahahah!! Wouldn't he love you for that!! Don't feel too bad for him. It doesn't bother him too much.

I know but that's my major downfall. I could kneecap a person(on accident of course) and not feel too bad. But one lil thing wrong with a pup and I get all soft and melty lol.

Pictures always come out blurry. I just want to update this thread. Banixx twice a day and after about 5 days , all the wounds have healed.
