we got our EM Remi from a couple in Aug and when I brought her home I noticed she had these bumps all over her body I took her to the vet and they said she had and ear infection in each ear and that was probably the cause they gave her antibiotics and a steroid shot and they went away but I have noticed over the past 2 week they are coming back I have looked into it and determined the bumps to be hives she scratches them like crazy and I think she has allergies but I have NO CLUE what the allergies could be any ideas? I really hate seeing her like this any help would be great

What is she eating? I know my EM has digestive problems if he gets any form of processed poultry but I have read that some dogs can get skin reactions such as hives from either chicken or grains.

I have noticed a pattern about these hives since Jade had her's last year. Several mastiff dogs in my area got them, several mastiff breed dogs all over the world have showed these hives. Almost all the dogs had been new to the environment and the people. It makes me wonder if mastiffs are sensitive to change and go through a transitional histamine reaction.

Hello, i have a 2 yr old bm. Early this year i decided to switch food to taste of the w**** after 3 different bags and vet visit later the bumps all over the sides and head and flaking dandruff and constant scratching i put him back to diamond 60 + i can say without question after a week now all skin issues are gone. Perhaps yours is food allergy related? I think maybe the product changed? After my experience i wood look at the food. Hope this helps.

I think a food allergy sounds like the most probable cause.
I would read the label on the food bag and then choose something else.
I have not had any issues with food alergies, I feed natures choice Lamb and rice for our adult Zoey, our pup was started on Costco chicken large breed and we have kept her on it with no ill affects so far.

I agree - look at her food first. Many mastiffs have issues with chicken based kibble (but not all). That and I'd recommend avoiding grains (mainly corn, wheat and soy). Most dogs are ok with rice, but you never know! :)

Also, carbs can feed yeast and ear infections... so double-check any treats you give. Peanut butter is actually a big culprit for some dogs - stopping the peanut butter kongs and ears clear up. Denna LOVES peanut butter. :(

You might also add some Omega3's to her diet - if Denna doesn't get her fish oil capsules, her skin gets itchy. She gets 2 AK Pure salmon oil capsules a day (I get it at Costco) which is less than half the "maintenance dose" listed below, but it seems to do the trick. You could go as many as 15 capsules a day to start, though, as a therapeutic dose (try to get one that is just fish oil, no other 'stuff'). Seems like a LOT, but that's what's been recommended to me (although, not by a vet)...

Omega 3's
maintenance dose: 100 mg (DHA+EPA) per 10lbs of body weight
therapeutic dose: 300 mg/10lbs

Thanks for taking the big little girl in!!
