Acne

Hey yall, so Zeus has been having some acne on his nozzle area that has been worse than usual. Usually he'll get a pimple or two but lately it looks like a cluster and they keep breaking because he pushes his nose into the grass so hard and often. It also looks like he might have had some on his lips because there is some irritation there. Any tips on how I can fix this for him or at least make it better? He has steel bowls that are cleaned daily and water replaced throughout the day. TIA.

I found that adding coconut oil to Kryten's food helped prevent him from breaking out. when he did break out I would wipe the area with diluted apple cider vinegar which seemed to help heal the area faster than just wiping with water.

How old us he? If it's hormonal, it will go away eventually. Wipe his face with betadine so nothing gets infected and, if it gets worse, also use am antibiotic cream. Have you made any changes to his diet recently?

Could it be an allergy? You said he keeps pushing his face into the ground. I had a Newfy bitch that was allergic to chicken and she would rub her face on the chain link fence after eating before we realized what was wrong.

I have a 14-month old english mastiff and am having the same issue. We've been to the vet and she was put on antibiotics plus medicated wipes--the acne briefly went away but came back after a couple of weeks. The wipes alone do not seem to help, and I just can't seem to get rid of this acne. It looks to be getting worse and often bleeds (although she doesn't seem very bothered by it). I'm going to try the apple cider vinegar/water mixture I saw others post on a separate thread. If that doesn't work, I'm going to try the betadine.

wipe his muzzle off with mild soap and water after he eats , i've used a bit of oatmeal dog shampoo in water . use a little 2.5% benzoyle peroxide , and give it time , they usually grow out of it , you just want to keep it from getting infected ..... jmo

i would add , don't wash it excessively , or put to much , too often , or too strong of a percentage benzoyle peroxide on it . it'll dry it out and irritate it ....
