Some people are confused about the origins of the Boerboel and how it has been managed so I thought I would post a few Vids and jot down my take on the breed.
After my short time researching the breed I find it to be a wonderful dog very in tune with it's owners loving and protective. Very intelligent to the point of you might think it will start talking to you at any second.
They don't like who they don't know right off the bat but they do love the attention they get even from those that they don't like. I found that if a stranger looks my Boerboel in the eyes for more than a brief moment she will correct them for their mistake. But allow that same person to pet her just not on the top of her head. This Boerboel is what is considered to be the guardian type. She is thick and hard with a very blocky head and shape but don't be mistaken by her bulk 130 lbs 25 inches tall I have seen her flat jump straight up 4 feet high and running flips at about 5 feet off the ground. She recently even bloodied up a pair of coyotes that made the mistake of jumping our fence. They did get away with their lives though.
This would be Jade the unknown, Her mother is a Centurion Kennels BB and her father is a Boerboel of unknown parentage.
Then there is another type of Boerboel. He is very hound like tall slender, lean fast as lightening and able to run for miles at a time. This is the farm dog type of Boerboel. I don't have much experiance with them but I have one that is just 4.5 months old he is about 75/80 Lbs 22 inches tall. He is a lover very soft loves to eat and avoids confrontation. But he is still a baby this would be Authentic Boerboel Odinson-Thor (Phoenix of Mizpah) We can just call him Odi.
Some historical info about how the breed came about

I also gathered a couple links of interviews with one of the officers of the first Boerboel organization and he talks about color and temperament. And how the original dogs thought to be black were really just dark brindles, what we now call Ultra Brindle.
An interview with Kobus Rust, ex-chairman of SABT, initial selector of foundation dogs, senior appraiser and early Boerboel breeder regarding his involvement with Boerboel breeding.
Explains about the "Black" Boerboel being brindle dogs. @1:35 Kobus explaines he joined the SABT about 3 years after it was formed @4:28 member 340.
