My sister had her boxer pups 2nd rd of shots today and about 2 hours later his face is swelling up. Is there anything she can give him to help?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1341533054.216710.jpg

Id just call the vet and ask, we have a few animals that come into the clinic who have mild reactions to the drugs, the Doc normally gives a "pre" shot in the future before vacinating. But for the first reaction he normally prescribes a shot to ease the reaction..... though I dont really know the name or the amount. But I do know that you must be careful with medication after the reaction due to fact it can make it worse or even counteract the vaccine... so its best to just call your vet and ask their advice.... Always better safe than sorry! and most vets will chat on the phone with you and discuss what needs to be done, and if there is something that you can self prescribe most of the time the vet will direct you how to medicate your dog.

Call the vet, and keep a close eye on him. If his face is swelling his airways could be too and thats BAD.

She is on her way to Lubbock to the small animal emergency clinic now. They said she could bring him in or try Benadryl. I told her It would probably be better for them to look at him. At least thats what I would do with my two.

I would agree with a shot reaction as well. Make sure you notify the regular vet, so it gets noted in the chart. They can pre medicate him before any future vaccines if needed.

Good! Make sure she advises the regular vet of the issue, there's things they can do to lessen the chance of a repeat, and if nessecary give him an exemption from future shots.

Sadie had a reaction to the rabies vaccine. Our vet told me to give her benadryl before the next vaccination. I always have benadryl on hand. My lab was allergic to bee-stings, she would swell up and be recognizable in the face. Granted when she was stung, we had to take her to the emergency room for steroid shots, but if she would be outside for a longer period of time I would give her Benadryl as a preventative.
