9 month Cane Corso food

Hello all. I just rescued a 9 month Cane Corso last night. I've read to not put him on straight puppy food, so I thought I'd get people's opinions on what they are using. I have a bag of Blue Buffalo Wilderness grain free at home now and was wondering if that is suitable or not? My pitbull was on that and it was good on his stomach because it has almost twice the fiber compared to other grain free foods. I have a 5 yr old Corso, but I can't remember what we fed her back when she was a pup. Any help or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The salmon is fine for mastiff pups as far as appropriate levels of Calcium and what not but it does have chicken which many mastiffs have issues with. You do want to do a slow transition regardless from the old food to the new.

Congrats on your rescue! I feed my 9 month Corso Earthborn Holistic, Meadow Feast. It's also grain free.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, we have no idea what he was eating so we can't switch him over gradually. :(

You could try a bland diet for a day or two and then start on the kibble to try and avoid digestive upset.

Welcome!!!
Like Jersey Girl, my cc is on earthborn holistic great plains feast. You may want to put him on Straight boiled chicken for three days and then slowly add in the new food, being that you have no idea what he was eating prior, the chicken is like starting from a blank slate and then add food in 25% food to 75% chicken for three days, then 50% to 50%for three days then 75% to 25%....Then you wont have a mess everywhere and youll know weather or not the food agrees with his system and doesnt shock it.

Congrats and thank you for rescuing!!!

Thanks, great idea! I didn't think about that. We usually use boiled lean burger and rice when our dogs stomachs get upset.

Also, should I just follow the recommended guideline on the bag for the weight he is at now (he's 65 lbs)? He definitely needs weight put on since he is pretty skinny, but I don't want to overfeed.

You can do the boiled hamburg and rice too and you do want to follow the guidelines. The calcium and phosphorus levels on the food are a little on the high end so over feeding wouldn't be the best idea. If i seems like not enough food a higher calorie food may be in order.

Thanks so much! I may end up trying the Earthborn Holistic eventually as suggested.
