I hate my first post on here is a question about a health concern. My little girl started shedding really bad about a week or so ago but i figured it was normal. well along with the shedding she started digging at herself and its got to the point that she's getting a bald spot above her butt and a few other areas. she's even got a few scabs from cutting herself. She's on a flea preventative and I've checked her to make sure she doesn't have any. She's been on the same food since she was 10 weeks old so I dont see that being the issue as it is a good grain free chicken free food. My black lab has also been digging at himself lately. With fleas ruled out is there something else that could be causing this issue that has a simple remedy that i'm just not thinking of? I figured the best people to ask are other owners that may have experience with the same problem. Thanks everyone for any help in advance.

Any pictures? Might help get a better idea of what's going on. Food allergies can crop up at any time, but if both dogs are having similar issues my guess would be environmental. Have you sprayed anything on the lawn recently? Dogs gone into the water (stagnant or someones pool?) Carpets cleaned?

Because your other dog is beginning to have the same reaction it sounds like it could be Sarcoptic mange caused by microscopic contagious mites, you would not be able to see them with just your eyes. It is also very difficult to diagnose because getting a skin scraping right were mites are at any moment is difficult. How far apart were the onset of symptoms between dogs?

Pictures would help a lot because although food allergies can pop up at anytime, bald spots make me think Mange. Magnum had Demodex Mange when he was a baby and started to get a few small bald spots. Demodex Mange isn't contagious so it wouldn't explain the second dog but I would make the the trip to the vet for a skin scrape like Prince said.....
