4Health Grain Free Dog Food vs. Regular Purina Dog Chow

Hello,

We have always fed our EM, 4Health Grain Free. I have heard that Purina is Horrible. Is that true? Am I taking a big chance by switching to Purina?

Thanks,
Steve

I use Purina because all the grain free food was causing soft stools. Was good food but not worth picking up that type of poo

We were considering changing due to the cost factor of the higher end brand.

Honestly, 4Health is one of the most reasonably priced good foods out there. It's not the best food, but it's better than many. I'm not sure which kind you're feeding. Do you have your dog on the grain free or on the grain inclusive? I'm not a food snob, but I'm not a fan of Purina. Purina does make some foods that have meat as the first ingredient now, but they will cost as much or more than the 4Health. What Purina were you considering changing to and is there a reason, other than cost, that you would like to go with that brand? Perhaps we can help you find a good food within your price range. What are you looking to spend?

I use 4Health from Tractor Supply, and soft stool is and has been the result. Bummer. Lexinrose, any thoughts? How about some advice, Boxer Girl. Thanks!!

I wouldn't switch to Dog Chow. It's a very poorly rated dog food. Is the grain inclusive 4Health food cheaper than the grain free? They usually are. You could try that and see how your dog does with it. 4Health is a good food for the price.

One thing to consider when thinking about prices of foods is that you will be feeding far more of a lesser quality kibble in order to get the same calories (from quality calorie sources) and nutrients you'd get from feeding less of a higher quality kibble.

Purina is a low quality dog food. It's pretty much comparable to feeding a child McDonald's every day. Does it give them enough calories to function? Yes. Does provide them a healthy and balanced diet? No.

I'm curious to learn of something better myself I have paid for many high end foods and my dog was allergic to some of the best. He would itch and chew his paws. Now back in the day I used Purina the green back there was never a dog that gave me problems like now and throwing money out the window. For my boy he gets sensitive sin and coat. Stool is perfect he doesn't scratch or fungus in his toes.

Purina in general is a poor brand even there higher end lines, beneful and pro plan.

There are surely dogs that have live a full life span on Old Roy's, but it does not make it in general a good source of nourishment for your dog.

Simple google of them will give you a lot of reviews and reasoning, it's a little to late tonight for me to list a full reasoning and all the links.

off the top of my head i've raised dogs on eukanuba , purina , diamond , iams , solid gold , and canidae ....... this one here was raised on purina sensitive systems ...... she had surgery for a blockage at 8 weeks , a couple weeks later she had another surgery for an intussusception ..... she could only eat science diet bd or whatever one was for abdominal problems , in trying to get her off that the only food i found she could eat was purina sensitive systems ..... she x-rayed excellent as an adult , and was the biggest bordeaux bitch i've ever seen , straight , muscular and massive bone , her forearms and wrist were bigger than mine ....
