Misinformation

This is the only place I come to get help/information/advice about my mastiffs. I wish other people would do the same...stick to one reliable source.

I joined a mastiff FB page and the amount of total bull sh!t that goes on in that group is amazing.

"Mastiffs will destroy your house because they're always going to be chewers."
"Mastiffs should be spayed/neutered by the time they're one year old."
"I'm on my second litter of Masitffs but I really want everyone to own one so I'm going to price them ridiculously low and advertise them all over Craigslist."
"I've always given my mastiffs rawhide and will continue to do so."

I joined the group to look at pictures of other mastiffs. I've been there two days and have already had enough. Grr.

OMG, I hear ya!

I joined a FB group for Staffordshire Bull Terriers to show off my girl, Thalia.

People will post questions like, "My dog is chewing my furniture. What can I do?" Answer, "Rolled up news paper".

EVERYONE seems to be breeding their dogs just for the fun of it with no rhyme or reason. There are also TONS of dogs that are so far off from the breed standard... People are like, "she's a long legged Stafford". Uh, hello, you just got taken for a ride and I bet you paid a lot more for your, "long legged type" which isn't even a real thing....

Really, really sad that there is so much misinformation and irresponsibility out there.

Yep, I joined a raw feeding FB page. The shit that comes out of their mouth blows my mind. We should always remember that nothing is gospel. Almost all of us are just average Joes trying to help each other. Even on this board. However, I do trust and rely on a few people on this forum.

My pup defended itself when a pug bit her on face and owner ( my neighbour) put her hand in the middle and got a bite needed few stitches anyway she is young and posted her bite n than stitches on fb for all to see saying she got bitten by a dog . Anyway people asking her what type of dog and when she replied BULLMASTIFF huge amount of people were saying you should report it that dog should be put down ! Be carefull there dangerous dogs ! Don't let your kids near it ! Call authorities etc etc all this educated intelligent Facebook people with all this ideas about bullmastiffs !!! Pfft !! Anyway no 1 cared that this dog bite my pup on face and she had retaliated in defence and neighbour put her hand right in the middle and not to mention it could have been her dog as equally as mine that had bitten it in the moment .so you could imagine how stressed I was for few weeks with neighbour having everybody on fb in her ear to have my dog reported and telling her how dangerous they are and keep kids away !! My pup was and is the most sociable funny happy dog . But her pug has bitten every dog that has gone near it and had bitten halo many times in past but just pushed it's luck this time grr to uneducated no it all people on dogs !

I trust what you, Hector, Deb, Ruth, and a few others here way more than I trust any of those people. Some of them are ridiculous.

The name of the group is Mastiff Lovers. Guess I should have said that to begin with. lol

I joined a raw feeding page on FB, too. They are all elitist snobs who treat people like they're stupid. They actually said the only people who feed chicken feet are those who want to feel "exotic" and impress their friends. WTF

There is a lot of crap out there in facebook land.

I used to be a member (actually, I think I still am, but never post, and rarely read) of a raw-food fb forum, but there was so much silliness and mis-information, that I simply don't bother anymore.

The only places I go for information and support online are this place, as well as 2 (non-mastiff related) very small and private fb groups started and run by people I trust.

I joined a "local" mastiff group on FB also a while back but got "kicked out" when I suggested to a woman to either rehome the dog or the husband. A clueless woman who did not know if her adult male was neutered or not!, kept him tied outside because the husband did not like the dog. No loss for me as it was mainly a "meat market" for mastiffs anyway.

I do maintain a membership in a few raw feeding groups, but more because they'll occasionally produce links I hadn't found than anything else, cause yah, elitist is a good way to put it!

most of these people don't even listen to reason! People are spaying these poor dogs at one-year or younger despite what some of us are telling them. It's so frustrating!

"My vet said to!"

Now you know why I occasionally want to pound my head into a wall lol
