Fila prey drive **Warning graphic**

Hey there Louie, its about speed and agility, not power. I was out for a morning walk not hog hunting.

I'm just a casual observer to the breed, but to me the rabbit is instantly more impressive than a hog in terms of the above--speed and agility. I know what my little hound mix can do in those areas. Feeling she was bested in these traits by a dog 110# bigger is just insane to me.

Regarding lefties and hunting, most people would tag me as very liberal, but that law about dogs and hunting seems ridiculous to me. In fact, if I were into pro-gun control laws, I would want to see laws encouraging forms of hunting that would either minimize the use of firepower and/or that would require more skill, knowledge, and investment in hunting (I would think buying, rearing, and using powerful breed dogs requires these). I don't know why they wouldn't let you have a GPS collar? It sounds pretty silly.

I was just teasing ya. No doubt cc are impressive at speed and agility for such a large dog. My male cc would jump over the baby gate (to keep off carpet areas).. seemed like it would work. One of my friends hunts hogs with his cc, ill see if he can send me a pic and ill post if not to graphic. ...and really must not agree about a rabbit being more of of a challenge. But do agree that's it purity dam fast..

Filas are great, we just started our pup on tracking to eventually be able to help us catch hogs.. The nose is amazing, not sure why other fila owners don't tap into the hunt drive/ prey drive of these animals. She is tracking better then the mals and gsds her age.

Have you hunted for hogs before? When a dog smells sent in air we call that (winding)...

Have been very busy with some major projects last couple months and will be thru summer. Hope to hit it hard this fall. Next year hope to have much more free time to hunt and fish. Life gets too stressful when you can't get in the woods and on the lake. I plan on getting a good Walker pup or 2 also in the fall.

BH-K9, do you have to apply for hog tags out there?

Yes you have to get hog tags, pig tags, dog tags, gun tags, and a 100 other tags, and have your hunting license,

You also have to lie about who owns certain dogs if questioned.. We likes to bring pups out just for exposure and the top 8 but so many rules it gets annoying.

I'm not a regular hunter I just got into it a year ago, I like teaching dogs to detect and track scent human, drugs, fire arms, animals, whatever... So when a year ago I was asked to help train my friends game pits I fell in love with the sport...

Sorry Ace but I am hijacking your thread...

Do any Fila owners have a video of your dogs running and turning on a dime? I have heard that they are quite impressive at it. I would love to see it.

Oh yeah, grew up coon hunting.

Ferrel pig tags LOL. Something only a liberal politician could think up. That state is so beyond gone. They should offer rewards on ferral hogs, instead Tax and Regulate. Unbelievable.

We are going to get some videos this weekend of tracking, protection work, and dock diving.. I'll try and get a video of my friends older fila running and being called back.

Problem is most of the time the filas I've encountered don't want to leave the owners side

I don't want to discourage you, and let me be clear every Fila is different. But generally speaking it sounds like you are describing Cafib heavy bloodlines that I would guess show what appears to be strong "ojeriza". Again generally speaking from experience those lines WILL stick to your leg like a cat, but often lack the confidence and drive to leave you and pursue prey. They want to stand by you and nudge you, all the time, not hunt. Often they have no interest in prey, they want to be with you, every minute. Not bashing at all, just being honest, some people here will candy coat. But there are always exceptions. And there are some goofy CBKC dogs scared of a little bird to be honest, it goes both ways. I hope yours turn out to be what you want, just warning you. Prey drive has been bred out of Filas for the most part.

Funny you mention that,my kennel partner has a new pup five months or so, she tries to eat our chickens and wants to be out tracking- loves food and following scents likes him but loves tracking anything that leads to food at the end.

I was disappointed and thought wow that dog is no fila she's a bloodhound.. I have extreme prey driven mals, and working line shepherds so what interested me into this breed was civil defense and ojeriza to strangers

Are there any bloodlines that have strong temp, good prey, and solid nerve? I'll be honest here I love the look dog cbkc, temp of cafib, nerve base of the strong cbkc dogs, extreme ojeriza of the nice cafib dogs. We can't seem to find a line that encompasses all these qualities.

lol that's a tall order, have you considered dogman#1's dogs, Ill be honest I'm curious to see how they are, so if you get a pup from him It'd be interesting to see how it turns out. Have you owned Cafib dogs in the past?
