Hey everyone, I'm new to this board. We just got our new Bullmastiff puppy "Sadie". She is such a sweet heart!!! The reason I'm posting is, I was looking at all the weights of the other dogs on here and was thinking Sadie is quite large for her age. At 6 and half weeks she weighs 12.8 pounds. She doesn't look over weight at all. I was wondering is it healthy for her to weigh that much so young? Your info is greatly appreciated.

In my opinion, as long as she seems healthy and not overweight then there probably isn't much to worry about. Welcome to the forum.

If she has a clean bill of health from the vet and has been wormed then I wouldn't worry, some puppies are just rolly polly more than others ;)

She's fine! Like the others said, as long as she's healthy, her weight at this age is ok. :)
And she's very cute!

May I ask why the breeder sold her so young?

Thanks everyone!!! AKBull, we found her at a trade fair while looking for furniture... We wanted a brindle American Mastiff and were planning on trying to get one in early spring when we came across her. My wife and I could not resist!!!

I know those temptations oh too well! That's why in a previous life I owned 2 mastiffs, 4 cats, 2 gerbils, and some fish.

Yes why do you have her already at 6 and a half weeks? Nice work picking up a dog at a trade fair. This absolutely means you can't be taken seriously. And American mastiffs are an abomination just a cheap cur version of a real dog. Most mastiffs are ruined because people will continue to buy from and breeders because they failed research and find breeders who are willing to put the time and effort in to select for performance. Now instead of the proud guardian of family and home it once was its a fat slug scared of its own shadow and racked with a billion health, joint and temperament issues. Lesson here is if the dog is being sold alongside furniture then alarms should sound.

Well, alarms should also sound when an individual joins a forum dedicated to a particular category of dogs without the courtesy of an introduction, proceeds to insult its members on numerous occasions and by all appearances, digs their feet into the ground with the refusal to share details or pictures about their dog(s). I'm not sure where you came from, of your true reason for being here among us or how long you will plague us with your by many accounts unwelcome appearance, but I for one do hope your stay is short. Perhaps I have even extended your stay by addressing you at all, but it was time.

To the true ladies and gentlemen of the forum:

Am I alone in my above thoughts? Who are our admins? I don't want to promote true censorship, but I really think that some things could be tightened up just a bit here. I'm not simply complaining - even as a newbie, I'm happy to volunteer my extra time here to cleaning up around the forum.

I don't think Bantu has a dog, she is just wanting to be apart of something. Oh, and Bantu, please work on your grammar.

Where were you when "woody" attacked me? Why didn't you cry then? I don't think what I said was against any rules, being blunt and honest should always be acceptable. There's no need for "cleaning up" what are you 90? t

I don't think I can take someone named woody seriously. Its obvious I have a dog. I have obviously researched and acquired much more knowledge than you have on the subject. Silly!

As for the original post, I think that is a good weight. My dog was a little over 13lbs at 8 weeks(I'm pretty sure). He ranges from 135 to 140 full grown....just prospective.

You tell others to be respectful and yet to proceed to insult and belittle others on here for their choices. We all know trade fairs and pet stores are not the best place to get animals but there are a lot of impulse shoppers out there and after the fact all we can do is educate them to the problems that come from puppies that are purchased there. You sit and preach about how to do this correctly and expect us to take you seriously without knowing you or really anything about you. You make fun of others who are excited to post pics of the dogs they own and are proud of and yet are above doing so yourself, and yet you expect us to take your "credentials" and experiences seriously? I hope that no one reading your posts takes anything you say to heart as you contribute nothing to this forum and its members lives except your own inflated opinion, which isn't worth 2 cents as far as I am concerned

I completely agree and while the admins might not wish to censor anyone I hope anyone who reads posts by Bantu takes nothing he/she says to heart as I don't think some who believes their opinions and ways of doing anything are the only way, is worth the time it takes to read the posts.

I suspect that your puppy is just fine but like was said before if you are worried take her to the vet for a check up. It will be good for her anyway to have an easy appt. where everyone does nothing more than check her out and offer her treats ;), makes it so much easier on the visits when it is for not so great reasons. Congrats on your new puppy and please update up with pictures as you can.

Cheers,

Funny I was just thinking taking anything you said seriously would be ridiclous and no it isn't obvious that you have a dog as there are lots of internet warriors who blow lots of hot air without knowing and damn thing about what they are talking about :)

You're mocking my screen name??? Wow.... I wasn't planning on getting a dog when we went. I admit, I'm not anywhere near as Knowledgeable as a lot of others on here but that is why we wanted to wait until spring before seriously looking. My wife and I wanted to do more research before choosing a breed/breeder. We just happened to come across her and she is so sweet! We're not looking for a champion show winning just a loving family friend.

Thanks BlackShadowCC, we have an appointment this upcoming weekend. Will do on the pics, we even have an excel spread sheet to track her growth rate and average weight gained per week. :)

Congrats on your baby :)
As she was young when you got her make sure to get her in puppy class ASAP for puppy socialization. :D
As long as she is healthy I wouldn't worry about her weight, they are genetically predisposed to reach the weight they will. With good food and care she will do just fine. You can't compare dogs as lines grow different.
My 2 year old CC was 88lbs and 22inches at 8 months when I got her, now she is 23 3/4 inches and 90.3 lbs, while our pup is 6.5 months 74lbs and 24.5 inches, both are kept lean. Depends on the dog :D
As for the troll, I have nothing against truth and honesty, and maybe you did not get the pup in the best fashion, but you are here to learn. Being insulted and called names is just going to alienate. There are a lot of very helpful ppl on this board, so don't let the one bad apple spoil your experience.
Good luck with your pup and can't wait to see your pictures.
