I hear so much that CC's are working dogs and are most happy when working for there owner. That being said can I have a few examples of this? What are the best things to do to put my dog to work? Hes 9 months now at 80 pounds. I noticed if hes runs too much he will limp for a little bit on his front paw. Growing pains? IDK but he is gaining 3-4 pounds a week at this rate. Well thanks for any opinions on this.

They have been used for hunting big game the CC is the only true coursing Mastiff.
They have been used for working cattle and hogs.
They have been used as security and guarding people and property.
They have also recently been used as companion dogs for the disabled and and elderly.

They may not be ON the hog...but here you go...not just one but two of them...Bay Practice.jpgThis pic was from before I adopted her. She has more confidence than any other dog i have ever owned, never seen her back down and at 7yrs old will still put her son(Titan)on the ground(just playing)even though he outweighs her by 25pds. You shouldn't judge all Corsi based on just your experience with them.

I know what they are doing...hence the "I know they are not ON the hog" Just because you have never seen one on a hog doesn't mean there aren't any that have done it...I think when DDSK said "working cattle and hogs" he didn't mean it as they were "Catch dogs", he probably meant herding and baying...
Dude there baying the hog...^^.

Cane Corso in my region has always been used as big hunt dog and especially for badger hunting (where were selected brighter colors of the fur, that nearly disappeared after the ''creation'' of the race). And people still use it here.Well not the cane corso of our days, the one that you find in expos with underbite and golden retriever temperament..But old and fierce cane corso often mixed with native greyhound,to arrive at a prototipe of a fast dog, with medium force but lots of stamina a different dog from the one used as guard of the lands,or from the one used as guard of the herd with massive force but low stamina and a very harsh temperament(the first one was called ''Sparviero'' the others were ''cn corz'' in my dialect, cane corso in italian) ..But well this isn't the history that is told when you buy a corso son of World Champ. The Cane Corso race is one of the most versatile race,he can do nearly every functional work from guard to hunt, depending on the right selection..

E1. When we were doing research on the breed 90% of our research let us to believe that CC from Italty were vastly different from "watered down" breeds here in the states. Listen I have one and enjoy here verry much. She is everything I expected. Loyal, beautiful and great with kids. That's what I wanted. Its ok that most CC will never be proven on big game. Just own up to what you have and own. I do.

Well I just answered with a little vit of historic background, nothing less nothing more.Disinfo is common in Italy,I immagine it's even more in USA.Cane corso is everything you sayd, very balanced breed, now.
I don't understand what you mean with watered down breed, could you explain me?Just think that Cane Corso in Italy it's the equivalent of the pit's in America, nearly same uses.Even game dogs.
I never sayd corso wasn't a good companion,or not suitable for normal life and I'm glad you are happy with your dog.But what I sayd it's just history, and that can't be changed..At least I think so ahahah
By the way i've talked to people who take C.C. on big hunt, against hogs and other big animals. And have seen with my eyes dogs that saying that they were confident is low. That is your opinion that's mine, just chill :)

Pls don't think I'm dising anybody or the like. It's just that the breed as I understood it was to hunt and catch big game and there's more show dogs then there is hunters. As a hunter myself

Oops. .as a hunter my self I would think MY CC would be great at catching hogs. My CC is more athletic and agile than my dogo. But lacks the confidence to actually hold a hog. That's all I'm am trying convey, My experience, and no one has proven me otherwise.

I'm not thinking that you are dissing or arguing about my statements! The only difference between your dogos and your CC is that the dogos are selected even now for big hunting..Cane corso breeders preferred expos let's view it in this way..I'll ask some people if the have photos or document of cani hunting, but I can tell that people in my province are still using them against hogs :)

Sophie is Scandifio on both sides, out of Italy. She finds squirrels HI-larious and a little slow truth be told. The "predatory nature" or prey drive is still in there, question is how much and when would you like to see it? You cannot remove that instinct I seem to understand, so channel it into a proper use. We have Boar here up at Hunter Ligget which my best frends son uses Catahoula hounds of some sort. We've been invited along and from the way they look upon their return, I'd rather not.

There are boar hunts in CA using dogs. That is not a dying art!
