When purchasing a pup...

Let me start by saying this is not directed at anyone in particular or based on any particular post it is just something I want those that get their dogs from breeders to keep in mind when purchasing a pup.

Now keeping in mind that this is in regards to RESPONSIBLE breeders and not what we would call BYBers or anything.

Breeding is essentially manipulating genetics, you are pairing two (potentially more) dogs to hopefully get the best from each dog in at least (possibly more) of their puppies. This is not something that is easy to do or ever has predictable results no matter what we expected based on the genetic components we do know.

Breeders are not perfect or infallible! We work hard to study the lines we have or wish to have or use, do health testing, hopefully do something with the dogs, temperament testing, and have a dog when compared to the standard compares pretty good so we chose to breed. That does not mean that there will never be problems in a program. That something won*t pop up that wasn't expected, that a puppy won't get sick or develop an issue. It simply means that we try the best we can to prevent that by doing the stuff above. Genetics are a funny thing and mother nature has a mean sense of humor at times.

It breaks my heart when I read of people that are going through things unexpectedly but they have their breeders support and honoring of their contract but I am always elated to hear of the breeders that are doing what their contract states. It pisses me off to know end to see the pet owners that trash and go after responsible breeders (that can and are honoring their contract) because they ended up with one of the pups that had issues, that they believe when getting a puppy there was a guarantee that would not happen. When you are dealing with living, breathing beings there are no guarantees and I know that can seem really hard when you are going through some of the issues that can crop up but if you have a supportive breeder that honors their contract then I think you are one step ahead of those that don't.

So I guess in closing, if you are looking at buying a puppy be aware of this. Respect that when dealing with genetics there are no guarantees, find a breeder that is doing what they can to get you the healthiest, sound puppy that looks like the breed you want. Be open and develop a relationship with your breeder and have them work with you on anything that comes up.

:) You are bias but I will allow that ;) but again, all we can do is try and I am certainly more than estatic when it works out but would be supportive should it arise. I understand that these are babies to their owners and that it is heart breaking but I don't understand the vindictiviness that some pet owners do
