When does wariness and skepticism come on?

I was wondering when you can expect a CC to have some skepticism to other people and dogs inside or outside. Bunchy just turned 5 months on Saturday and absolutely loves every single person and dog he meets outside or that comes into the house. The ONLY time he barks is when he's "guarding" the deck or the front yard and then he will give a little puppy warning ruff to let them know they've been spotted. I just wanted to know if this is a behavior that I can expect to change or to become less enthusiastic. I know once they reach sexual maturity they can change and get a little more serious but right now its awesome that he wiggles with everybody he comes across.

At 7.5 months Capone doesn't really approach anybody and growls at pretty much anything if it get closes to the house. Hes tolerant of people and will let them pet him, but I don't think he really cares either way. Now if someone were to walk in the house, he would flip out. At 5 months, he seemed a little more loving towards people and would occasionally go up to them, but nothing that your describing. I'm not a cane corso behaviorist, but that's just my experience. Like people every dog has a different personality, not one the same.

It really depends on the pup but they generally come into their true temperament at about 8-12 months.

Touche^^^ It also depends on the leadership the dog is under. If it's living in a chaotic/stressful/anxious environment then they will feed off of the energy provided...whether it's inside or even outside with it's "leader." If it's living in a calm/stable environment were it knows it's place and standing in the pack then your dog will reflect that energy as well. When a dog knows where it stand and what's expected then it has no reason to be anxious/fearful and stressed.

At 16 weeks Enzo is already very wary of new people and tends to bark and gruf at them...takes a little time for him to settle down and allow someone new to pet him....I have a calm house, plenty of visitors, there shouldn't be any stress or triggers for this behavior...to me its like he came prewired to be wary and distrustfull.....Of course I will correct this behavior and there shouldn't be any issues....But I am bit dissapointed as at his young age he should be happier to see new people...He's not fearful of anything, seems to have very good nerve and confidence...he just doesn't seem to like new people overly much....I will take a wagle butt puppy over a serious gaurd dog every day...... Enzo's parents were both very friendly, so I am praying that its only a phaze and Enzo becomes friendlier......How friendly his dad was played a big rle in why I fell in Love withthe little booger inthe first place........My DDB was very gaurdy and really bullied everyone who came over so I was hoping for a little less seious.....if at 16 weeks he's already a jerk,I hope he's not going to be even worse as an adult.....

It can vary by dog but usually starting somewhere in the 12-18 month range, and likely get coupled with some teenage acting out so be prepared. Some dogs do not get the wariness that you read about, dog like human have varying degrees in a personality.

Jack at 4 and 1/2 months is a social butterfly. I don't mind but i would prefer him not to jump on people and pull the leash toward every stranger we see. He's quite wary to some dogs, though.

Agreed at about 6 months and over 70 lbs, Bunchy now realizes he's strong enough to pull towards people and its gotten quite bad. I posted in the main Mastiff thread about it and it is certainly a work in progress. All that HARD pulling just to greet and play with every person/dog he sees. Good intentions but makes for a frustrating walk.
