We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

What type of grass or alternative do you have?

My yard has been torn up by the dogs over the winter and as the ground starts to thaw over the next couple of months it is only going to get worse. I'm trying to figure out a grass or grass alternative that is both safe and durable. I've looked into artificial turf but it is out of my price range right now. This is the current state of the yard.

I've got the grass that was here, which is actually a mixture of grass and clover and dandilions and other weeds.....The grass in the run is pretty beat, but not that badly.

Mind, we're in a fairly wet area, so even the dog pee marks don't last long before turning green again, so I assume that helps.

My yard is full of sink holes created by dog.......We have Bermuda grass here. Drought resistant and cheep

We went with the fake stuff - ordered it from Coscto at about 1/2 the price of anywhere else. Then paid a local landscaper to remove our old patchy grass, re-grade our yard for good drainage, prep and install the turf. All in, it was about 2.5x the cost of sod, but I'm sure that now... 1.5 years and three big dogs later... we'd be looking at redoing sod again by now - especially since Denna likes to dig. She doesn't try to dig through the turf, but we have excavation holes (up to 3 ft deep) all around the edges. :)

I wish I had an answer for you. I am dealing with the same thing. The yard was never pretty to begin with but Ruger has destroyed it between digging and all of the rain that we have gotten. He runs through the mud and the yard has giant Ruger print in it. It is truly a disaster and I rent so I will need to get it figured out before I move to my property.

To get rid of the mud up here, we use pellets that you put in the pellet stoves. They soak up the water and make it so its not muddy. It's turns to saw dust and then biodegrades into the soil. Great and cheap way to kick mud in the butt :)

If you have access to a pickup, see if any of the turf farms give a discount for picking it up yourself.

They do, Ruth and I am sure that is going to be the route I take but to be honest with you, I am not doing anything just yet. I am going to the cheapest possible fix I can as I am walking out the door to move. This yard is big and privacy fenced which is awesome but it is more weeds than grass and Ruger has truly gave it hell. I hate putting money onto someone else yard! Damn dog! LOL
