What food are you feeding your Cane Corso?

Hi Everyone!

I just got my new Cane Corso about a month ago...her name is Chloe and she is such a cutie!

I was wondering what are/did you feed your Cane Corso now and when he/she was a puppy, if at all different?

I am currently feeding her Canidae (All Life Stages) and at first she had pretty loose stools but they have been much firmer now and it seems like she loves it. However, when I take her out (anywhere around a lot of people), her skin develops a lot of dandruff. Vet recommended to change it to Science Diet (i believe) or Blue Buffalo. Any recommendations?

If you are looking for a higher grade food that is more cost effective, I would recommend 4health salmon or white fish. Most of the foods I see recommended here are GREAT, but for the most part quite costly. 4health is only sold at Tractor Supply, which for me is convenient. Leo my Corso had very much the same issues it sounds like your pup is having, and when I switched to the fish all issues went away.

If you have the time and the budget, go raw.

Don't do science diet, blue buffalo I seems fine, but rated as far as I can tell about the same as 4health and is slightly more expensive.

Chloe is stunning by the way.

We add salmon oil capsules to Denna's meals, if we don't she gets a little 'itchy'. No visible signs of dry skin, but if you touch her back, it 'crinkles' - it's always been that way, from the day she came home. Neither vet we saw seemed to be concerned with it. The salmon oil seems to help a lot.

My cc pup is 41/2 months, and I feed her Earthborn Hoistic....when I got her at 13 weeks, she was a bit itchy, and a bit flaky...I added fish oil to her food 1x a day, and that really helped. I also found that brushing her...even just 5 minutes a day really helped. That's what worked for me. Welcome to the forum, and Chloe is really pretty :)

Hmmm...Salmon oil capsules. I never noticed it, but Zeke does seem to get a little itchy from time to time. We're gonna have to try it. Thanks!

Good looking pup you have there!

Piper is 5 months old now and at first we had her on wellness large breed puppy and raw food once in a while. she was getting dandruff when nervous but grew out of it after a few months. we switched to blue buffalo wilderness about a month ago and still do occasional raw... i don’t know if the dandruff was food related or what was the cause... good luck :)

I feed berkely and jensen from bjs and at first was feeding chicken flavor but switched to the lamb and all her itchyness has gone away.

At the beginning (2-3 months) I was feeding Purina Pro Plan Athletic...to be honest my puppy was having some "gas" issues...So i decided to switch to a grain free product and it got way better ;)

Your girl is so sweet and beautiful

Do you just drop 1 or 2 fish oil caps in her food?

I have a 4 month old and a 6 month old and I have tried so many different foods and finally have
settled on one victor grain free by far one of if not the best food out there. Dog food advisor.com
gave it five out five stars the highest rating you can get. The problem is availability its made and
mainly sold in and around Texas since I'm in Arkansas I have a nearby dealer but you can order
off the internet and it is worth it. The salmon is absolutely allergy free and the have a 42 protein
and 22 percent fat kind that really packs on the lean muscular mass.

Which flavor do you feed them? I have searched for some around my area but i am limited to the "Life All Stages and Yukon River Salmon".

i found this website that reviews dog food. I found it helpful in choosing a high quality food. I'm not sure what the benefits are to grain free food as apposed to healthy grains. I would like to hear feedback on it. http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/ anyway check out the website it might be helpful.

Grains are fillers essentially and many grain inclusive foods have more grains than protein sources. Also many mastiffs have issues with chicken and/or grains so I usually just avoid both.

My boy seems to be having issues with grains, so we are switching to Taste of the Wild High Prairie Puppy soon.
