Tess is an English / Bullmastiff cross and quite possibly the most amazing dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning. I would rescue another in a heartbeat. Just go to big dogs huge paws rescue site, there's always plenty on there. Jovo, he's my lab pit cross, fantastic boy, he's my heart dog. I could never take offense to what Cody, or Mary or anyone else is saying about mixing these breeds, they know they make great family pets too.

but I wonder how many of the pups the BYB's will take back when the adopter decides the pup is too rambunctious, or they want to take a vacation and no one can look after it, or it ate all their furniture, or they had no idea what they were getting into, or they didn't clear it with the landlord first and shock! the landlord is going to kick them out if they dont get rid of the dog.

Are these BYB's screening or just taking the money and forgetting what's going out their door and to whom? Do they care if these pups are ever neutered or are the new owners free to breed at will?

I dont work for any rescue sites but I've seen my share of dogs that need homes. And while I wouldn't want to shame someone for an "oops litter", i also will not share in the congratulations of it. I would rather hope that people have the experience I did. Before coming on these forums I really didn't understand. I thought all breeders were just in it for the money, I would always have gone to rescue or a breeder who was giving away their pups for free. And papers! Wow must be a really amazing dog.

Course I used to think all Pit Bulls were devil dogs, and at one time, Dobermans used to turn on their owners cus their brains grew too big for their heads. That' was back in the 80's when they were the demon breed, but I hear that's the issue with pit bulls now. lol.

Most people dont know good breeders personally, so I think Im blessed to have been able to learn from them on these sites. So many good people I talk to just dont get it. But it isn't because they are jerks or stupid, they just haven't been exposed to the other side of it.

If the people that have this litter are willing to make sure every dog goes to a good home, keep the ones noneone wants, and take back the ones that people give up on and find them new homes, then I see absolutely nothing wrong with this "oops breeding"

As a person who used to work the euth room and load the burner I can tell you there are no guarantees of a forever home.... Even breeders dogs end up in shelters, rarely but it does happen. Thankfully they are tattooed and chipped and good shelters will trace the breeder and call them...

A dog dies every 4 seconds in North America at your local shelter, think about that when saying this oops litter isn't such a bad thing.... Because it's not the only oops litter...... Irresponsible breeding kills.

An example... Labradoodles, there was a great article on here talking about how the inventor regretted creating them. He did it for a reason, poodles didn't make great dogs for helping with disabilities but labs did. But then there was an issue of people with allergies to them :( So he crossed the two, genetically testing the pups to see which ones were actually hypoallergenic so that those labradoodles were the ones that were trained from the litter. He had a goal and kept records on his litters, I don't know if he did health testing on the parents or not as I am not familiar with that kind of program but I am assuming that some sort of testing is done so that people don't get an aid dog and then it develop something like HD because it was present in the parents.

However in that article he also says that he regrets his Role in the whole designer dog fad. That although he originally had a purpose he would not recreate if he could go back in time...

Yes I saw that he regretted because people have taken his work and bastardized it for the profit but he did have the best of intentions when he did it :( That is what I meant when I said if you have a purpose.
