Wavy puppy coat

A2DC0B60-CD51-4177-B443-7E0E23CC43B3.jpeg Hey everyone. I am new to this forum. I have a question regarding my cane corso coat. When I first got my puppy at 7.5 weeks, his fur was straight & according to AKC standards. Around 12-16 weeks, his fur started to get wavy. At 5 months, it looks liked a perm, now at 9 months, it still wavy. Is this something he will eventually outgrow? I purchase him from Chicago and he was marked as a show quality prospect and price accordingly. We live in SoCal (LA). Any advice I’d appreciate. Thank you.

I didn't think a wavy coat like what's pictured was disqualifying, but I'm not positive. Lots of dogs have that and in my experience they do not grow out of it. He has his adult coat now and I'd guess this is permanent. Are you planning to show him? Does the kennel you got him from show? It seems like they would be best able to address your concerns. I'm in the Chicago area. What kennel is he out of? Perhaps I've heard of them. He's a lovely boy!

I do not plan to show him. I just wanted a corso that represent the breed well, was more focus on temperament and health testing. I rather not say where I got him. I had to sign a contract and he was pricey since I was 2nd pick. Overall, I am happy with him but just wished he had the straight fur. The breeders do shows competitions and most of their dogs are champions. I just haven’t seen a corso with wavy fur. Thank you the response. I appreciate it.

I just emailed the breeders to inquire. I wasn’t sure if it was a silly question since this is my first corso.

I understand. I was just curious as my daughter may be looking at Corsos in the future and we're in Northwest Indiana. Not far at all from Chicago.

I think it's an actual curly coat that's a disqualification. I think the waves are just something that happens with some dogs. I've had boxers with cowlicks and an EM with a wavy butt. Would you mind sharing what your breeder says? In case anyone else ends up having the same question? More pictures would also be great...just because.

Attached are some images as a puppy (no wavy fur), some with his wavy fur, and him now. Overall, he’s a great dog and he gets compliments on his features. I’m very petite (5’) and we have a solid bond and he knows I’m the leader. I take him to breweries, coffee shops etc., very well mannered for 9 months. People always get surprise and always feel the need to ask why I decided to get a corso being so little.

I will definitely share what my breeder says once I get a response. BF87BE95-0B29-4A64-8881-7E575522801D.jpeg
