  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Ugh. Vomit.

Well, I thought I had Athena's vomit issue under control. We switched her to Solid Gold, started her on probiotics, added water to her food, gave her a slow-feed bowl, tried smaller portions, etc...

She still throws up after her morning meal too often so I'm going to try feeding raw.

She loves raw chicken and has eaten raw beef before so I'm not concerned about getting her to eat. I've ordered a box of Keen dehydrated raw food to supplement fresh raw meat until I get the hang of it. Our pet food store gave us a sample of it and she really liked it.

Anyway, I hope it fixes the random vomiting issue.

Not sure if I told you this method. One very small wet meal in the morning (for me it's 5:00AM). When I say small I mean like 10 kibbles and about 1 ounce of meat with just enough warm water on it to cover the kibbles and a spoonful of Cottage cheese on top. Then in about 2 or 3 hours or normal feeding time set down a normal portion. See how this goes. This is the way I cured Jade of her pukes.

That's about the only way I can feed her in the morning and not make her sick. Only I add a scrambled egg instead of meat. Once she gets past that first meal, she's fine.

Did Jade outgrow the vomit or will she still get sick if you just feed her a bowl of kibble?

Crossing fingers for you!

Do you need help figuring prey model?

I need help with everything. :p

It's 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organ, right?

I'm not sure how much to feed her. She's about 66lbs. Today I gave her two chicken legs and a thigh. She seemed like she wanted more but I didn't want to make her sick. I was planning on giving her half a chicken for breakfast. It's a small chicken. Without legs. :p

After a week of chicken, I can start adding other stuff?

Give me all the advice.

What are you expecting for an adult weight?

If she's tolerating the chicken well then you can indeed add in new meats in a week or two. And yes, 80/10/10

Her breeder thinks she will be about #130. I have my doubts. I still think she's small but I'm not used to a dog that grows for so long. She's about 24.5 inches and she'll be a year old on the 21st.

I think her mom is #115-120 and her dad might be #140 or so. He might not be finished growing though. Athena inherited his big block head. :)

So we'll comprimise and say 120 like mom. So 2.5% of that is 3pounds a day. But once she gets over the novelty of the raw, unless she's in a growth spurt, she may not eat that much, just to warn you. In general I only keep track of how much Apollo is eating so I can balance it, otherwise he eats as much as he wants whether I want him to eat more or not!

I see that "scrambled eggs" is a common item in your posts. Just curious, does this help her not vomit?

I can feed Jade normal meals now so yes she is over it. I still do it for her on work days just to keep up routine but on weekends I feed late and usually a full meal or one of 2 small meals for the day. I can't remember the last time she puked.

Athena ate half a chicken for breakfast and a bowl of dehydrated raw slop for dinner.

So far, no vomit or weird poop issues.

She is super-excited about the raw food. I've never seen her so enthusiastic about food.

ok, where are you feeding? I do not have enough indoor space to allot for raw inside-does anyone feed it outside?

I need an idiots guide to this. I'm considering it-Tessa loves raw meat

My dog has always taken anything she views as a treat outside. We didn't train her like that, she just does it.

So I've been feeding her raw outside. I put it in a bowl but she takes it into the yard.

Ok, so outside would be great, since I apparently a TM can't freeze LOL.

ANYTHING Tessa views as a special treat gets taken to my bed. If it's special & she wants to save some for later, it often goes under my pillow.

Broccolini-
Tessa is about the same size 24.5 inches & about 75lbs, she'll be 1 yr Jan 5th--I had not realized they were so close in age.
Also didn't realize that 1 yr mark was coming up SO FAST.

Please keep posting about what you are doing for raw. I would really like to make the switch.
