Toys

I wasn't exactly sure where to post this, but I am looking for suggestions for toys. We have two EMs. We are struggling to find toys that will keep their attention. They love new bones, but typically after the first day they will rarely re-visit them. We avoid anything with stuffing because of how quickly they are destroyed. They love plastic bottles....but can only have them when we are watching because they now quickly progress from playing to eating them. One of them loves her jolly ball, but only if you are playing with her. She can't have cow ears unsupervised as she chokes trying to swallow them whole. The male prefers large blocks of wood. We have also tried squeaky toys, and we rotate the toys to try and make sure they don't become bored with having them around all the time. Our female loves the water hose, and will play with it all day long, but we obviously can't leave that in the house for her to play with. They do not like their Kong bone or ball. She is 9 months old and he is 8 months. Just wondering if anyone had any other ideas.
Thank you!!!

My dogs also love soft squeaky toys but destroy them. I found that the fabric toys that you can stuff either a pop bottle or a large milk jug into seem to fulfill their need for the soft toy without the mess to clean up. Just an idea for outside. Take a halfgallon or gallon milk/water jug, fill it with water/beef,chicken broth and freeze it. They can play with it out side at least till it melt or they chew it.

They do LOVE ice! Smokeycat...they have a small one for a water bottle, but I've never seen one big enough for a milk jug I know they'll love that! Thank you all!

mine loves his Jolly ball...kong wubby and everlasting bento ball, the treats for it aren't everlasting but the ball holds up and I put pieces of hot dog in it and he has a blast! Not a toy but we stuff whole cored apples and put them in the freezer for a bit and he loves those just as much if not more than his stuffed kong.

Kong Wubba! Also, the weird bowling-pin shaped Kong squeaker. It's kind of ... obscenely shaped but pretty strong for a bright yellow fuzzy toy.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1338084033.029441.jpgthis is the ginormous snake. It is over 5.5 feet long with 12 indestructible squeakers and no stuffing. The boys just love it. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1338084156.399130.jpg

Buster Cube is something my dog enjoys. Fill it with treats(kibble) and let the dogs try to get the food out by moving it around. It makes them work their minds and is fairly large so isn't a choking hazard for such large dogs. Ive bought a few "Mighty dog toys" and they are still around and have held up amazingly well. You can get these off amazon or on their website www.vipproducts.com being a toy tester is worth the 50% discount if you get toys from the Massive series.

@Smokeycat: where did you get the ginormous snake?!? Oscar loves to simply squeak his toys endlessly but otherwise isn't terribly destructive of fuzzy toys. Plus, hubby hates snakes so this might be fun ...

Marrowshard I found it in Petland. So far they have managed to puncture one squeaker but it lives up to its claim that they still squeak.

Our EM loves empty 2 litter bottles and milk jugs. Sounds stupid but was walking to the recycle bin and dropped one and she had a blast! Lol never gets old. We watch her cuz we leave the caps on so she can't squish it so easy! And cheap!!

That's a medail with two sides.
A malinois we know from Gilmore's BH class loved to "kill" empty juice bottles.
Then her owner came back from grocery shopping and brought three bags with her.
She placed the first two on the counter and got out top get the last one.
When she came back the whole kitchen, including the bags, was soaked with orange and apple juice.
And in the middle of that mess her dog shaked the last drops out of one of the apple juice bottles, surounded by the seven other bottles she bought which got ripped off.

Dakota loves to pull the stuffing out of soft toys, so I will buy inexpensive soft toys and let her go at it from time to time. I also re-stuff the toy so they last a bit longer (usually about a week). One soft toy that lasted was the Tug O War by Tuffy's, but it is an interactive toy with two dogs or human and dog. When left to her own devices, it took her two days to start a hole and pull out stuffing. The toy still works great without the stuffing and squeakers in it. She also loves balls or other round objects like rocks or boccie balls (I take them away so she doesn't break a tooth).

I also buy a mammoth bone and that takes her a couple days to eat most the pieces. What is left is the shaft and I fill it with peanut butter where the marrow is. That keeps her busy for 30 min, which is nice and she always has a dreamy look on her face while eating it!

Vulcan's favorite, and totally indestructible, toy is a 14" Push-n-Play ball made by Jolly Pets. I put a few ball bearings in it to make noise and he never gets tired pushing it, with great vigor I might add, around the yard. I never give soft or fuzzy toys because of the possibility of him ingesting parts and stuffing.

I finally gave up on store bought toys and usually find things around the house or make them. He loves empty milk jugs, water bottles, boxes, etc. Right now his fav toy is a big fabric scrap that I stitched up and stuffed with plastic water bottles and poly fill. He throws it around, takes it outside, to bed, etc. About once a month I make a new one. His second fav is an old running shoe that he throws around and slings left & right smacking himself and everthing in his path! The trick with the old shoe was teaching him "mine" and "yours" so that he did not think all shoes were toys. It really wasn't all that difficult to do.
