Toys that last

I finally found a couple of toys that are Kryten sized and have lasted more than a couple of days. Both are rated an eight out of ten on the toughness scale.

The terra dactyl has a couple of holes and one of the seams has started to separate but given that stuffed toys are normally desqueaked and destuffed within an hour I think I got my money's worth.
Jiggers isn't too impressed but that could be because he has trouble picking them up. They are bigger than the cats.

Caution - ours lasted less than a week. It's a lot of money to pay for only a couple days of fun, but then again everything seems to be 2x as much in Canada than the US. Caesar had his ripped to shreds in no time. If I were to get another one I would be more diligent in not allowing him to 'search and destroy'...

We've only found a couple things that have withstood the test of time. Kongs, the Squirrel Dude (purple Kong-type but has the teeth to make getting treats more challenging), ropes, antlers, and most recently a Jolly Ball. It looks more like a crater now with all the teeth marks, but it is the only ball (ever) he's not been able to pop. He's had it a month - so that's like a dollar-a-day! What a deal! Lol!

I'm going to have to get a jolly ball, sounds like a Bailey-level challenge. Most of Bailey's toys are destuffed, desqueaked and destroyed in less than a day. Rope toys we reasonably cheap and replaceable and they are wonderful for her teeth (so clean), but her best toys still are her squeaker Kong tennis balls. They amuse the heck out of her...running, chasing, squeaking for ten - fifteen minutes at a time (me going crazy) but she LOVES them. Thank You Kong!

Both of them still exist! They don't play much with the stegosaurus but the terradactyl is a favorite for both, the holes are only a little bit bigger than they were. I tried a jolly ball and Kryten loved it until he managed to chew the handle off. He never touched it after that.

Smokeycat - I bought the Jolly Ball without the handle. I thought about the one with the handle, but Caesar will rip off any apendage, tag, or sticking-out thing - kind of like me with hang-nails. :)
I was shocked that he could actually fit the ball in his mouth and squeeze it. He looks like a cobra dislocating his jaw when his jowels blanket the sides and he's softened it up a bit in the last month. He can squeeze it a lot easier now than the first few days. It is scented with vanilla which is nice.

I posted a video "Caesar's Impression of Chewbacca" with him chomping, being vocal, trying to get me to play with him if anyone wants to see what it looks like in action.

ewlizbat - Does the Kong tennis ball have green fuzz on it? If so, Caesar likes to pick that off too but still might be worth a try.

The Kong Tennis balls have fuzz like regular ones, my dogs peel em too. But haven't been able pop them as easily.

I used to get the squeaker balls as anything with a squeaker or ball shaped is Jiggers favorite but Kryten would destroy them within minutes of getting ahold of it. Just like any regular tennis ball.

I have gotten the kong squeaky ball and a couple of pigs, Duke loves to toss the pig to himself and squeak it. So far they have destroyed 1 medium one, but the 2 large ones are still around 2 weeks and going strong. The ball the squeaker is in the middle so far its 3 weeks strong.

Sterilized bones are great, as are the large Nylabones, but there are no true "toys" that can survive at my house, other than the Jolly Balls. We have one with the handle and one without, and the handle is just about gone, naturally.

We have a thick, hard, plastic 10" ball, the Jolly "push and play" ball, that you fill with water to make it heavier or lighter, I think designed for horses. Busa literally plays soccer with that thing and will kick it around the yard for hours! It is too big in diameter for him to pick up, though he's tried, and it is very hard plastic so it won't crush like the soft jolly balls.

I have to get my nephew to take up his basketballs when we visit their house, because Busa can pick up a basketball in his mouth, and will play with you if you take shots at the basket, bouncing it off his nose like Air Bud. I need to get video of that.

Mufasa has the pterodactyl, the big ass dragon, the trex and the the stegosaurus as well as a pig. All of them have lasted more than a year now, the pig he has had for almost 2 years and they are still ticking. I am fortunate enough to have a dog that likes to "mouth cuddle" the toys far more than attack and rip them up.

We had a 'tuff' Lobster (looked similar to the pterodactyl) but that didn't last a week. Anything with appendages gets used as a tug toy. We moved onto another 'tuff' product which is basically a rubgy ball shape (or American Football for those over the pond!) and because there's nothing sticking out for them to grab onto they seem to be doing pretty well (about 3 months now).

I tried a couple of those balls and Kryten just tore them apart. I think it had something to do with the seam bindings instead of flat dreams.

My baby chooses to play with hard wood blocks, around 4x4x4 brown boring wood blocks. She seems more interested with them than stuffed animals. I keep her supplied or else she'll turn to my notepads. Her dental health is perfect by the way.
