To post or not to post...

That is the question. Our CC got her stitches removed yesterday. The vet said to come back in a week to have them posted. The person we bought her from (been breeding for 20+ years) says that by the look of the ears that the do not need to be posted.

Just trying to get some other opinions and see what you sll out her think.

Thanks on advance.

Unfortunately I have zero experience with such a short crop. I'm a boxerirl, obviously lol. I did think that generally the short crops didn't have to be posted and most people use massage. I'm honestly not sure what I'd do in your case. Sorry, I'm no help.

Her crop is longer than most CCs but it is starting to look good. We are going off what the breeder says to do and massaging it. Holding off on posting since teething and growth can cause ears to fall.

Omg, teething is havoc on ears. Lol. Massage is something I do for my natural eared dogs with a less than optimal ear set. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it doesn't. My little old boxer man has the most awful ear set ever, but it gives him personality. I've embraced it. Please post lots of pictures. I'm looking forward to watching your baby grow.

We will definitely be posting pics as she grows. We weighed her yesterday (1/9/22) and she was 19.2lbs. She is growing at a great steady rate.

Hi.

From the one picture I see, it looks like quite a short crop. You say it's longer than most Corso crops?

Maybe it's the foreshortening in the pic that makes it look so short. What I see in the pic would not need posting in my opinion.

I think everyone thinks there is not enough ear to post because the pic shows the ears laying on the head. They are not that short.

Cool. Another pic would help us better see; but I think the answer is: If you feel there is a need to post, then post. Or, perhaps just tape but no posts. I've seen Corso ears just get taped, no posts. I'll just advise: Resist the temptation to use too much tape. That's a bad tendency so many people have. The ear skin needs to breathe as much as possible.

Gosh yes! More pictures are absolutely what we need! Lol. Seriously though, they do look very short from the angle of the picture, but I just want more pictures. I agree with what BattleDax says above. I also know a lot of boxer breeders like to use molefoam, so perhaps take a look at that? I'd definitely continue the massage.

Here are a couple more pics of Olive's ears. She is now 11.5 weeks old and 24lbs. Sorry about the crappy pics. Puppies are hard to get pics of

Thanks for the additional pics.

I see now that they have some length to them. You might indeed find that you need to do some taping of them at least.

I see also that they made the tip come to a point – maybe more on the right ear than the left.? Such a point might wind up being limp and fold/flop. I'm just talking about the very tip.

Yes I agree. That is one of the things we are keeping an eye on. I think we decided to wait to do anything until after teething since that will/can affect the ears. I am updating her pic on our other post.

My CC had problems with his ears when I brought him home, 8.5 weeks old. I took him to my vet every two weeks, removed the posts and cleaned his ears, then reposted them for two months. His ears are perfect now. I have seen some dogs that have great looking ears now and they never had posts in ever. Sorry if not much help.

We did end up posting for about 2-3 weeks and her ears look good. Now we have an 8 week male who just got his compression bandages off and will get stitches pulled on Monday. His ear crop was done by the same dr who did Olives ears.
