  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

To Crop or NOT to Crop. That is the question.

Sophie's ears are cropped. Many people assumed she was a pit bull when she was smaller. But when they ask if she is a pit, it give me an opportunity to educate them on the corso. I have two Boston terriers with upright ears, who have not had ear infections, and my family used to raise wolfhounds and GSP. The Wolfies always seemed to have ear infections or ear damage, which was irritating for them and painful! Ultimately it is a personal decision. I decided to have ears done because I wanted her to represent her breed in its original form. And if people assume she's a pit, so what? They stay away, which isn't a bad thing either!. Whatever decision you make, now that most vets use lasers to do the crops so there is very little bleeding or pain. Gook luck with your decision.

I don't know what happened but this is my 7 month old girl not cropped. I like her ears and tail natural. She isn't going to show ave the fact that she's100lbs now, I don't want her to look any more intimidating then she already does. I already get looks like how could you have that killer dog around your four year old. I do take her to the park she loves it but her ears are a common target, nothing serious just play but she comes home with some good scratches on them.

As far as pitbulls are concerned I have had the random person ask if she is. And I chuckle to my self because if you eve have the fleeing idea of robbing my house or threatning a family member your going to wish you were dealing with a pitbull

Moose is going in on Thursday to get cropped. The vet does it with a laser and it cost $375.

If only I had the opportunity to it over again, I feel almost certain that I would crop this time.

We're keeping our pup as he is, just the tail done. Everyone thinks he's a rottie and it would probably help them STOP thinking that but.. I don't care. I love his little ears, I can't imagine not being able to flop them around :D

I agree with everyone on the ear infection and looking better. We got our girl and she had two ear infections, after the cropping she has been great. And we knew she would also have ears that stuck straight out, i think with the cropping she looks so much more striking. She also has a ton of emotion she shows with her ears, they perk up and perk down and you can really tell her moods from them. I love it, but it has to be what you want and agree with. They still look beautiful either way :)

Someone said it once before. When asked why the owner cropped the ears, the owner asked whether the husband or son was circumsized; conversation over! My dogs ears were done by the breeder, using lazer technology and there is/was very little pain. She looks beautiful and I don't have to worry about ear infections or torn ears. It is a personal decision, Sophie's ears make her a beautiful representative of a true Corso!

lol....great pic DalCielo CC!

I would say it's totally up to whatever look you prefer...we didn't crop Attie's ears because we like them natural. He's 13 months and we haven't had any ear infections or ear injuries, even with wrestling like a maniac with his puppy friends and tearing through the woods on our hikes. We find scratches on his big floppy lips more than his floppy ears! Either way, you'll have a great looking pup :)

Also, just would like to point out (as someone said a pro of cropping is that they look like a corso), Atticus and others with natural ears still look like Corsos...I've been stopped many times on the street or while playing ball and people asked if he was a Cane Corso...not to say everyone does that. We also get "that's a giant pit!" or "what a cool boxer mix!"...lol

I just got Capo's stitches out last week. I had him cropped a bit older, 13.5 weeks. I WISH I could have done it when he was younger! I seriously battled with the decision, but in the end it wasn't the surgery that was painful for him or for me. It was that because he was older, he had the strength and awareness to keep knocking off the cup and tape on his head. Basically, he kept causing himself pain. One of his ears flopping so I kept having them reposted and was a full time dog nurse for 3 weeks. I swore up until a couple of days ago that given the choice to do it all over again I definitely would not. But now that they are healed, I'm changing my tune. Yes he already looks more intimidating, but he sure does look handsome! And it really suits him well. He was an adorable puppy before, now he's a little Cane Corso. So my advice is, if you want to do it, do it as soon as possible and I doubt you'll have regrets.
