Tibetan Mastiff cross bred pups in UK- accidental breeding???

Came across this, figured I'd post it, not really trying to promote it, just trying to get word out to some TM owners from that side of the pond who may know someone who may be interested in the pups--

That way they'd not fall to someone who has zero access to a (responsible) TM owner is my thought, because I doubt they're gonna respond/train just like a german shepherd...

edited to add *I hope this was an accidental breeding*

Had someone practically down th road from me advertising TM cross pups last year. I have my doubts, looked like the fairly standard lab/pit/hound mixes we get alot of here. Had a girl join a TM group I occasion cause she'd met a TM/husky cross and wanted one JUST LIKE HIM! So ya, people are doing it deliberetly, and deliberetly looking for the crosses too....

I saw this on Facebook a few weeks ago. Apparently the original breeder of the TM was none too pleased. Not sure how that all worked out. Just hope the puppies go to good homes and the people that have them know what they're letting themselves in for. Been too many TMs that have ended up back with the breeder because the owners have found it too much like hard work a year down the line when the 'teenage' stage kicks in.

I also came across some comments on a forum--they were commenting that they thought the mix of husky/tm would be a nightmare-the conversation was due to a litter of the pups last year.

Looby, I guess what I do not understand is: If those TM breeders are getting too many TM's back--due to people not understanding what they were getting into:
#1--why keep breeding more
#2--why not do a better job of screening & educating

Obviously, I'll never be a dog breeder.

On the flip side--Even when I boarded Tessa at a wonderful place that breeds golden retrievers-A place I would actually love to take a couple of weeks stay at myself-
-I couldn't get over the fact of how irresponsible people are when getting pets & the bullsh*t song & dance a responsible breeder goes through to try to determine if a person is fit to adopt, & still they get dogs back. I get wayyyyy too angry to ever deal with that.
I have no viable solution, because it seems, as a species, humans just aren't evolved enough as a whole (most of the general population) to prevent the over abundance of unwanted pets. Groups & individuals are working at it, but we're just not there.

That was my reaction to the idea of a husky/TM cross to.....OMG, its going to be a hyper jackass of a dog with the independence and guard of a TM, and its going to shed ALL YEAR ROUND!!!!

Catia, I don't have a good answer for you. Some breeders are better than others at screening and educating potential homes. Some cope with the concerns over the quality of potential homes with strict spay/neuter contracts and co-own contracts. But the good breeders really do want to better the breed, and the only way to do that is to produce more puppies. If they stopped, there soon wouldn't BE the breeds that we recognize. Just poorly bred dogs that are called that name, and mixed breeds. And while I'm not saying that mixed breeds are bad (I can think of several breeds that could really use the infusion of some new blood), I'd sure miss our purebreds if that happened.

And no, I don't think I could ever be a breeder either.....

It's definitely a tough one. You can only do so much and as Ruth says, people will often say what they think people will want to hear so they can get what they want. All the TM breeders I know of in the UK (there aren't that many) have contracts about not breeding etc but not sure how you can actually enforce that on people. And this particular TM was pretty young so shouldn't have been at the point where he was being 'fixed' anyway.
I'm not saying that there are lots of dogs going back to the breeders, just too many for my liking. And I dont really blame the breeders, its the people who are told what a TM is like but dont really take it onboard/think "it cant be that bad" and then dont put in the effort to train and socialise....and end up with a teenage monster.
