  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

This is so sad.

I have a friend named John, whose "little" girl is an American bulldog named Luna. Luna goes everywhere with John, when he can take her. Luna is almost as big as Sunny, who weighs about 120 lbs. John is an online investigative reporter, covers local government issues. Kind of a watchdog for our town & county.
He lost his house about 6 months ago, couldn't keep up the payments like so many people in this country. He & Luna now live on the property, in a small motor home. He has built a fenced yard for Luna, & he walks her 3 times a day. We occasionally block off the doggy door, & John would bring Luna into our 1 acre fenced yard so she could really run & play hard with John. Luna is not friendly with other dogs. We tried introducing her to Sunny, who is totally non confrontational, 4 times; she tried to beat the shit out of him every time.
So anyways, Luna's been off for quite some time now. John finally took her to the vet. Luna has lung cancer. That's right, lung cancer. Here's the really horrendous part: a company called Mosaic was mining for phosphate directly behind John's house. On their city block 7 OUT OF 12 DOGS HAVE COME DOWN & DIED FROM LUNG CANCER.
And Luna doesn't have much time left. One lung is totally non functional; the other has about 1/2 capacity. She's so sick, but she still has good days. She's skin & bones; won't eat anything but roasted chicken & yogurt.
I guess I don't know what to do for Luna, except pray for a peaceful ending. I think when Luna's gone, John's going to go after Mosaic with all guns blazing. I hope so.
I guess this is kind of a rant. There's nothing to be done. But thanks for reading; keep Luna & all souls, human & non human, in your thoughts.

OMG my heart is breaking for these dogs. Has anyone contacted a lawyer regarding this matter? My heart and prayers go out to him.

I would also suggest all humans in that area go to a doctor and get themselves checked. This is really sad and a terrible situation. I'm so sorry for your friend.

What a shame :( I hope they go after the company and get some sort of justice but I agree they should all get check out as well, if that many dogs have come down with issues then it would concern me what the humans might be having to deal with for conditions as well, if not now in the future.

I agree that everyone should get involved in a class action lawsuit against this company. While the humans are probably safer; in Florida almost all homes have central air conditioning & you just don't spend time outside in the heat of the day. But I'm sure the incidence of cancer is very high in that area too.
Since John has a lot of inside info due to his position as an investigative reporter, I have a feeling that the sh*t will hit the fan when he's got time. Right now his entire focus is on Luna, & making her last days on earth the best they can possibly be.

Please keep us updated on this story. Again I am so sorry to hear about your friends horrible situation. Do they have the dog on morphine?

She doesn't appear to be in pain, just physically depressed. She's still hanging in there; of course she doesn't run, or even take walks anymore. But she likes to sit/lay outside when it's not too hot. And she still gets in the car with him. He stopped by the other day with Luna in the car, & she didn't even bark at our dogs. It was so sad.

That hurts my heart. I am so sorry for your friend. It sounds like he is doing the best thing possible by keeping her comfortable & allowing her to go in peace. Poor baby. Keep us posted on her & whatever John decides to do.

The reason I ask about morphine as it does not make them "oxygen hungry". If that makes sense. It eases the breathing somewhat

UPDATE: John finally had to say goodbye to Luna yesterday. He had her on some natural supplements, & she stabilized for awhile; but she went off her feed about a week ago, then he said she gave him "that look". So she's out in the yard now, with all the other good good dogs who've lived here over the past 30 years. Rest easy & run free, pretty girl.
