my three year old mastiff, grace, is probably about 57 days along

i've done a lot of reading and video watching, but i just want to hear what others people here have to say about birthing pure-bred mastiff puppies

any constructive input or questions will be appreciated

Did you get her from a breeder? Only asking because that would be the first person I would ask for help.
Also, there are other breeders on here who may chime in and give you some advice. Good luck! I hope everything goes well.

Get lots of sleep now as you will be living of coffee and adrenaline when she does start to whelp. Otherwise is there anything in particular you have questions about... it is hard to give general info on a situation when they are so different.

grace took a long time, from first pup to last was nearly 20 hours

all the pups seem to be feeding well and growing finer texturally

mother is still shivering on occasion, contracting and dispelling afterbirth

how long should i expect that to go on? the last dog was born last evening

Congratulations!!!! I don't know a thing about breeding, but the babies are precious. My girls want us to breed Mamie , but I don't think so. Besides, my luck would be she has a litter of like 16 or something and I couldn't home them all. LOL:p Besides, I wouldn't give any of them to just anyone, I would be sooooo picky about any adoptive parents that it would be like getting a real baby and I can't afford 17 mastiffs. Good luck and keep us posted. Where abouts are you in south ms??? And do you plan to ever breed again?

i'm near picayune, i have a list of a few people that are interested in pups, the stud owner may take one and i'll keep one

so there will only be five or six puppies available, the potential adopters will be well vetted before reaching agreement

at the moment i'm more focused on getting through these early days of mother and puupyhood

Are you sure they're all out? Did you do an x-ray or ultrasound beforehand?

no x-ray or ultrasound, the vet saw grace last evening at about 6:30, and said she felt one more in her

she gave me two syringes with oxytocin and after using those, two more pups were born at around 8:00

now the mother's form looks back to normal, except that she was having some discharges earlier today

now it's more like a slight rusty drip and she seems a little tired, earlier today she had plenty of energy

she ate kibble with cottage cheese this morning and maybe some afterbirth, it disappeared before i could take a look

edit: 2:00 pm and she's shivering again, like before the previous discharges

they haven't been tested beyond ordinary checks by my vet

i asked about extensive tests and was told that no vets around here do those
