Taping ears

Ok, Lillie is 5 1/2 months old and her ears are driving me crazy, especially the right one. It like, sits up really high and then flops forward over her forehead. I have taped and taped and taped... She does not tolerate the tape, the longest it's stayed on is about 3 hours. How in the world am I supposed to get a nice ear set if the tape won't stay on?

Only time I was moved to tape ears was my last Rottweiler pup...his ears went nuts about that age because of teething and I am pretty sure they would have been perfect without intervention but I did anyway. I used the tri-fold technique and electrical tape; he didn't pay much attention after the first 20 seconds.

I had been using electical tape, but it just came right off. Lillie will NOT leave it alone. I just went and bought some breathable, VERY sticky medical tape, so we'll see.

Here's some pics of her crazy ears:

There's something wrong with her ears? They look great and floppy to me.

Ok, this is how I just taped them, she's tolerating this medical tape MUCH better and is leaving it alone... we'll see what happens. Her breeder said as long as she leaves it on, it should only take a couple days.

And yes, I realize her expression looks like this is the worst thing that could have ever happened to her... trust me, it's not that bad :)

Oh I see what you mean! Flying nun ears!

I'm betting they will resolve just fine on their own but hopefully the super sticky tape works.

SEE! They are soooo crazy! I love her breeder, she just put me in touch with someone about 10 minutes from me who will tape her ears correctly for me, lol.

Sorry, I can't help with the ear issue...but is that a buffalo beyond the fence? How cool. :)

It is! We went to a Lion's club game park. There's buffalo, deer, elk and some really nice trails to walk. Lillie didn't even notice the buffalo for a couple minutes, but when she did she was like "wth is THAT! They are usually not that close to the fence, so we moved on very shortly, lol.

I love floppy ears, though they do attract infection and require much more maintenance. We had a Shepherd Lab cross whose giant ears stood straight up on their own. Looked like satellite dishes.

What happened to the buffalo. I've heard both, but never knew why they had two names for the same animal...?

We incorrectly call bison "buffalo". Buffalo refers to water buffalo, but not the american bison. I still call them buffalo though, I can't help it.

Hahahahaha. Oh. My. While Lillie's flying nun ears are absolutely adorable, I see why you're taping them. I have a boxer that inherited his mothers goofy ears. If he's wearing his "bad dog" ears, they flop over and cross in front like Lillie's one ear. If they're just normal they are up and out to the side like antennae. He can also hold them straight up in the air. Bad ears can ruin an otherwise good head, as they did with my boy. How is her ear leather? Is it thick or thin? My boxer has very thin ear leather and there just isn't enough weight to hold it down. He'd have been a good candidate for cropping. The taping looks good. Have you also been massaging her ears? And who knows - she's still young enough that they can straighten out on their own if the taping doesn't seem to do the job. Ears do tend to go crazy around the 4-6 month teething age.

I think her ear leather is thick... I don't really know, though. I'm meeting someone on Wed. who my breeder connected me with so she can tape her ears and show me how to do it.

And yes, she has a really nice head, it is kind of amazing how much more "distinguished" she looks when her ears are taped down, lol.
