Summer projects (DIY or not)

So been pretty busy this year with the exterior of the house. Had a large portion of the house reshingled and now painted this summer. I know the landscaping needs a lot of work. Gonna have to wait till I get more $$ and my lazy ass digging the grass up...hate grass

What have you guys been up to?

That looks awesome!! I'm still searching for the perfect first home for me. Ready to be a homeowner! No big projects for me this summer. Been way too busy with work. I've been thinking about making some decor for the new house whenever I find it. My DIY Pinterest board is full of ideas. Just need the time

Thanks! I agree, once you get a house. You will be addicted to home improvement and become house poor! One thing after another, it just never stops even when you want it to lol.

Summer time again...finally ripped up the carpet and finished the floors in the living room. Took a long time and a lot of work....I'm at a point where I feel sick even thinking about redoing the dining room and the guest room, but I still have those two rooms to do. Anyways - before and after pics!

Holy moly...why???

We're expanding the fenced dog area this month. Fence poles are in, now the chain link panels are going up and we're discovering just how well we measured the spaces between the poles......

At some point in the near future we need to get gutters on the house.....

I hear ya Ruth..it never ends and yeah when you do it yourself (unless you're a pro and have experience) things are not going to be perfect. I have bathroom and kitchen to update, but I need to do some, no, A LOT of landscaping and dig out part of the yard and fence it for a dog kennel. Ugh.

Yah, landscaping has been a constant project. The former owners kept it perfectly groomed.....but had done almost no actual landscaping. We don't generally manage to keep it quite so well groomed, but the lanscaping is starting to look decent!

And yah, our kitchen and bathrooms are needing updating. The appliances are new at least but thats about all you can say for it! Everything works at least though, so thats going to wait till AFTER we get the gutters in and fix the water around the foundation problems!

You need to come out here and build me some of those!

We have a gate on our front deck, the problem I have is NO ONE closes it behind them and it drives me nuts. Sure Apollo COULD go over it were he inclined, but as long as its closed it takes more of a threat than we've seen so far to get him to do so. But if its opn he goes right on down the steps!

They are easy to build. :p

My plan was to make the gate spring-loaded and have it open toward the house. That way it wouldn't need a latch and unless the dogs learn to pull on it, it should slow them down.

I just finished making these today:

I think the next thing on my list is a gate on the front porch because I'm starting to get paranoid about Athena escaping. Not that she's ever tried. She's just been starting to think she's a Fila as she gets older. o_O

Did you put in that chainlink yourself? I'm thinking of a layer of chain on top of that old neighboring fence, but I was wondering what the min. depth is because there are some concrete in the ground hindering us to dig any deeper than we like to, so that's another problem there.

Hector, there are products designed to attach to the top of fences, they're mostly for use with lighter weight fencing, like chicken wire, but you might he able to find a true chainlink product.

Broc, don't bet on them not figuring out "pull", Apollo noses the latch on ours, he hasn't QUITE figured out the steps to open it, but the concept is definetly there! I wonder if I can add a spring latch to ours.....

We paid someone else to do the fence. I'm just not that into digging post holes in our rocky soil.

Why is there concrete in the ground?

Hopefully they don't spend enough time out there to learn how to open it...

Hector, for 6' chainlink the standard is 8' poles sunk 2' into the ground.

Broc, Apollo doesn't "spend time" out there, but we go in and out that door alot.....

Oh okay. I like it. There's concrete in the ground because......the neighbor's (doctor office) wood fence is on top of a concrete foundation wall. I don't know if the the concrete in the ground is part of their foundation or just old concrete structure someone may have demolished.

Yeah I can build a chicken wire fence too, but I'd prefer a chainlink. I think 2' is what we got maybe 1.5' in some holes. The holes were dug earlier this year, just need to figure out what to do. You guys reminded me that I also have to redo my front and back gates...gate kits suck.
