  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Struggling to hold on for 2 more weeks!!!

OK! We are finally home after a marathon driving 2 days-13 hours there, 15 hours back! Lil Brodie is cute as can be and did great in the crate/lap all the way. Cried for 15 min at first and then just here and there. We got home at 1130 pm and I stayed outside with her to potty for an hour, and to no ones surprise-nothing. Slept in her crate without a peep till 530-that is our consistant am time and she peeded x2 and pooped outside-yeah! She has not been trained to go outside-too cold so the newspaper is it. She will truly be a teacup mastiff probably not getting to 100#. She weighs 11 pounds at 10+ weeks old-she looks like Koloff did at 5 weeks. No issue with a smaller BM as we are not getting younger! Our house is prepped for a big puppy, not this tiny girl. Today I will learn to post a pic! I am still tired from the trip, lil Brodie is too-in her crate chillin'. Glad she likes it.

Congratulations! Who is your breeder?

Congratulations! Who is your breeder?
Pandora's Bullmastiffs in Michigan. This is her 4th litter(the breeder, not the dog's) and really seems to know her stuff. Her pack was unbelievable-relaxed and just as happy as I could imagine. I want that! She had 3 generations of girls there-so nice to see grandma and how well she is doing. Where did you get yours from? Decide on a name yet? How has the first 2 nights been?

I got my pup from Kambell Kennels in Tennesee (http://www.kampbellkennels.com/about.html). The first few nights have been great, my puppy never whines unless he has to use the restroom. So far, halfway through day 4, he's had zero accidents in the house. It's almost like he came potty trained, he also goes immediately (within 1 minute) of being outside.

The one thing that has surprised me so far was how little he's eaten. When I looked at other posts on this forum, people mentioned how their young puppies would eat 4 cups of food. Well, he's nowhere near eating that amount. He eats a little less than 2 cups per day divided into 3 meals @ 7 1/2 weeks old. I found a site from an experienced breeder (over 40 years in giant breeds) who offers feeding guidelines that seem more suitable. I've pasted it below if you're interested in seeing it.

On the chart below, start with the low end amounts (females) and on males use the mid-range amounts. They should not be fed at the high end amount until they are in the at least 1/2 way through the month. Example:
If your female puppy is 10 weeks old she would be on 3 cups a day of kibble divided into 2 feedings.
  1. GIANTS - start females on the low end amounts on chart and males on the mid range amounts.
  2. They should not be at the high amount until they are in the at least 1/2 way through to being another month older.
Example: a 17 week old female Dane should be eating approximately 4 cups a day divided into two meals - maximum 5 cups a day divided. A Dane male at 17 weeks should be eating 5 cups a day divided, maximum 6 cups a day divided.
2 months or 8 weeks = 2-4 cups per day - (divided into 3 meals daily)
3 months or 12 weeks = 3-5 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
4 months or 16 weeks = 4-6 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
5 months or 20 weeks = 5-7 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily
6 months or 24 weeks = 6-8 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
7 months 6-9 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
8 months..... 6-9 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)
9 months..... 7-10 cups per day- (divided into 2 meals daily)
10 - 12 months....7-10 cups per day - (divided into 2 meals daily)

12 -18 months males - 8-10 cups a day (divided into 2 meals daily)
12 -18 month females -6-9 cups a day (divided into w meals daily

I put my pup on the scale today and at 7 1/2 weeks he's 11.1 lbs. He's eating Fromm Salmon Tunalini Grain Free All Life Stages dog food (http://frommfamily.com/products/four-star/dog/dry/grain-free-salmon-tunalini), I really like the ingredients and the Calcium levels are low and balanced. My breeder had him on Royal Canin Large Breed Puppy, but I decided to do the cold turkey switch, instead of the gradual method (mainly because I wanted him off the Royal Canin ASAP). Surprisingly he hasn't had one loose stool even with the Cold Turkey Switch 3 days ago. I will be keeping up with a growth chart and picture of him weekly as he ages in this forum if you're interested in checking him out. I'll add my first entry today when he wakes up and I can get a good picture of him.

Our girl is about 11 pounds at 10 weeks old and 2 cups of food looks almost too much for her. She gets so "full" and roly poly. She had her first temper tantrum today in the crate for naptime after lunch. she pitched a fit-after a brief reprieve we let her out and went outside for a few min. Now she is asleep at my feet. Loves being with her family-issue is I go back to work next week and she needs to spend time alone in the crate by them. Up till today, she has been enjoying the quiet time. Only one accident in the house when daddy wasn't looking!

Try 1 cup of food 3 times a day. Will someone be able to come home and let her out to go potty and exercise a little bit when you return to work?

Oh, yes-this is the benefit of hubby being self(un)employed. He has periods he has to leave for a few hours so she will need to be OK with that. I am feeding 2/3 cup 3 times a day and it just seems like a lot in her little belly. She had grand fun chasing the broom today and she is knocked out in the kitchen under my feet. But I need to move! I am used to working out 2 hours a day and that hasn't happened in 4 days-so worth it cause we will never have this early time again, and I can always workout later-it just messes with my mind, not to mention the ol' body.

Yeah, on the days I work-I usually do 30-40 min before work then an hour after work. The days I am off, it can be much longer than that. Three months of not working out? I will be insane by then, so today, I will get back in if only for 90 min. I will be a much better mommy if I can keep me healthy. Lil Brodie had a fair night last-had to get up at 430 am to eat breakfast BUT that is what time I get up to head to work anyway so it is good. I ordered that flirt pole thingy as she loves to chase the broom-does that increase the prey drive any? Don't know if I want that......Still figuring out the picture thing. I can do the smart phone and send to my contact but don't know how to get them here.....HELP!

Flirt pole should not increase prey drive. Prey drive is instilled in them. If they have prey drive, they have prey drive. I've seen a dog go crazy after a squirrel and the owner let go of the leash. Titan could care less. He sees rabbits at the park all the time. In fact, one was right in front of us and ran. Titan saw it and I told him to leave it and he was like ok.
