That is amazing. I have a 10 week old corso named Grimm. Can you explain how teach the send out, what age do you start this and what are the steps you use to build on to get to this command?

Wow. That's impressive!!!! I love the attention and how quick to react. The command while walking to lay and wait is perfect!!! I thought my boxer was fast and obedient now not so much. Haha. I have a tonne of work with my DDB to get even half of that. Thanks for Sharing. Ps any tips??

Thank you Mojo!! Are you going to do any sport with your puppy? I first taught Cianna a place command, she learned how to lay and wait on an object, I used a ramp. Then I taught her how to go out and circle the pole. I increased the distance from the box and the pole. Her platz command has always been on point, since about 3 months. I taught her to platz from every angle, in front of me behind me, side of me, etc. On only audio. So that was easy. My trainer Debbie Zappia, who is a well respected IPO trainer and competitor, shes been on the world team several times, she taught me the send out.

Thank you Roansdad, she is a good girl!! My main tip is HAVE FUN!! Play with your dog, make it a fun thing to do. Are you looking to do competitive obedience with your dog?

This was another thing taught by my trainer, you pair the jiggle of the lead with your hand on the pups nose first so the dog associates the two, then you start lifting up your hand and putting it right back down, then you increase the time that your hand is up untill its up the whole time, then you take your hand away. The stim from the least reminds the dog to keep his head up and hold his position while you start to take your hand out of the picture. I have gotten into arguments with people on other Cane Corso forums and groups that I am on, it is NOT a correction, and it is not done hard. In fact the first time I did it my trainer yelled at me hat i was doing it too hard lol. Anyway, i don't need to do that anymore, we of course had to faze that out. Can't trial that way =). We are training for IPO formerly known as Schutzhund, so our expectations of our performance is high, and heeling is a HUGE portion of the obedience in IPO.

Very cool! I wasnt wanting to criticise or anything I just didnt know why you did it, but it makes perfect sense to me now that you explain it. I didnt think for one second it looked at all like a correction either, a nervous tick maybe...LOL!

Lol, I'm sorry I guess I still get a little defensive about it! Some people on one of my Corso groups told me they thought I very much so irritating my dog, and htat it looked like she was gonna come up any minute to bite me! I was shocked I understand disagreements and different methods, but to see something completely different then any of the people I train with... I am a newbie a complete newbie in the sport and Cane Corso word so I've made mistakes and will make more absolutely, but one thing I do think I've done a good job with is building a good relationship with my dog. So that upset me. Sorry if I seemed a bit defensive! Glad I could explain

Hey Kristina, I to saw nothing wrong with how you were treating Cianna.. True looks very different from what I have seen from others but cannot argue your success or how much the two of you have bonded. The connection probably has lots to do with staying physically connected as well. My boy is 10 weeks old and is receiving one on one training for basics which will include a place command. Once done I very much want to do advanced obedience work and love the heel work and send out practice. Would love any tips or practice drills you would suggest. Feel free to message me if have anything can suggest as despite what some others may have said I can certainly see the relationship you have built and only home Grimm and I can get to that point.

Thanks Mojo! Before training with my trainer, I hadn't seen it done before either. We are very very bonded she is my baby girl, and is definitely mommys girl lol! Thanks! Sure thing, its all very easy. I will see if I can dig up a video of her puppy heeling. The heeling that we have, we started at 12 weeks. It takes a longggg time. Took Cianna and I a little longer because she had knee surgery at 6 months. If that hadn't happend I dont know how long it wouldve taken. The send out is super easy. You just need a pole lol. And your place practice will help you a lot with it

Kristina not sure if you'll see this but I was wondering about the jiggle also. "then you start lifting up your hand and putting it right back down, then you increase the time that your hand is up untill its up the whole time, then you take your hand away." During this time of moving your hand up and then away are you still jiggling or when did that end? I am taking an online fundamentals class and we haven't started heeling yet but this looks like a very interesting approach.

The jiggling did not end at all until her head stayed up consistently with my hand completely down. This method is controversial, but it worked for my dog.

Thanks Kristin, so interesting that there has been some push back on this, last weekend at my club they were encouraging me to pop the lead to get him to follow quickly and this jiggling is even less corrective. I will be trying this. My class that I am taking appears to be completely positive so I won't be filming Gusto with his prong collar even ;-)

Awesome! Actually, it was on the FB Working Cane Corso group that I got the most bad feedback from. One guy even said he thought my dog wanted to bite me, which is complete BS. It is a very light jiggle, NOT a correction, my trainer yelled at me the first couple of times for doing it too hard. Basically, you want to pair the jiggling with the food on your hand, so when you get to the point where you can start taking your hand away, the dog knows that the jiggling means keep your head up and hold that position. So when your hand is completely by your side, you keep the jiggling up for a bit until your sure your dog has it. Worked very well for Cianna

Kristin, do you have a sequence for teaching a fast down? Kh shared hers with me but would like to gather any other techniques out there. Thanks.
