Skin irritation

Hello all! My boy used to have skin issues. His back end was nearly bald because he was so itchy! I switched him to a grain free diet and he's been doing great. However, since it got cold I have notice a few scaly flaky spots on his back that are about the size of a nickel and bare. They are itchy to the touch. Was thinking about getting him some Brewers yeast or fish oil supplement. Just curious as to what everyone else does.

Use a humidifier in the house, as the air tends to become quite dry because of the heating system. Adding salmon, coconut or olive oil to his food also helps. Probiotics and vitamin C are good for allergies. Bath less often and also use a conditioner or a few drops of oil (i prefer argan because is very hydratating and has no scent). I also mix water and argan oil in a spray bottle and I apply it after i finish brushing him.

Give him a tablespoon of coconut oil (virgin, organic, unrefined, etc kind). When you brush him, just a boar/horse brush to distribute the natural oils and brush out the dandruff.

We loaded up on salmon oil for our pup when she was itchy...that seemed to help. Assuming your pup is over 150lbs, I'd start with 4x a human dose (we used the capsules for humans) and give it a few weeks to see if it helps.

My girl doesn't have dry skin but she used to break out into rashes and what i used is aloe vera from a plant and rubbed it on her to take away any itchiness and redness. I also gave her coconut oil like someone else advised but i also rubbed it on the effected area and alternating between the two usually starts showing improvement within a few days, although the aloe works instantly.
