Shipping/flying with a Dogo Puppy

Hi Everyone!

My husband and I will be bringing home a Dogo puppy in July! We are so excited! The puppy is coming from Arizona and we live in Virginia. We've arranged our vacation to California around this time with the intention that we would bring the puppy home with us. We are also trying to make it as affordable as possible too.

United allows a soft pet carrier to have a maximum height of 11.5 inches and the puppy would have to be able to stand up and move. My question for you all is, how tall is a Dogo at 8 weeks old? Is it possible for this to be an option for us and have any of you taken a flight with an 8 week old dogo? It's just much more affordable to take him as a carry on, instead of checking him as luggage. I also feel like it might be less traumatizing.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

That's a good question, he could be a little taller than 11.5 inches. I agree that flying with you in cabin is better than putting him in cargo since he is so young.

How long is the flight? Puppies @ 8 weeks usually have to potty every 2-3 hours.

Hopefully, you can line the crate with puppy pads/newspaper and add an old shirt worn by you with a stuffed animal he can snuggle with (remember he snuggled with his siblings).

Thanks so much for responding!

Our first flight would be about 4 hours (I'm aware that he'd probably have an accident in the crate but it might be a sacrifice we'd have to make.) Id pack extra stuff to chabge it out as soon as id have an opporrtunity. He'd be approximately 8 weeks old.

Sounds like you are well prepared for the flight. He should be fine. Be aware that he should sleep most of the flight but he may also whine and cry. Place your clothing and a stuffed animal in the crate and hopefully, this will calm him.
