Seeking EM breeder within 4-5 hours of Chattanooga TN

Hey folks. I find myself needing to locate a breeder. I was working with a breeder, and sadly she has a 625 dollar non refundable (based on the policy I agreed to) deposit from me. I was the top of a wait list for a Brindle Male. The first litter from October that I was supposed to get a pup from died (some squished by mom and the others died after the mom dried up 3 days after the birth on milk). She had another litter this past Friday with a different set of parents and half of that litter has died due to apparent birth defect issues and this female has now dried up milk as well. On top of that she produced no brindles so I was willing to settle on the one Apricot male she has. But I now find that these issues she is having just dont seem like something that would be happening with healthy parents. I mean we are talking about 10 pups that have died due to nutrition/development issues and accidents between mom and pup in 2 litters from 2 different pairs of dogs within a few months. I am going to have to accept most likely I am walking away from that money sadly (which REALLY SUCKS). I have inquired about getting my money back but I am doubtful on it happening. So with that said does anyone know of breeders within 4-6 hours of Chattanooga that may have litters available late March to early April? I am hoping to find one and am hoping not to overtly break the bank since I am already eating that 625.Thanks so much and if I need to post this some place else please feel free to move it.

Betty from Hocus Pocus Mastiffs said my requesting a refund shows a lack of commitment to a lifelong relationship with a Mastiff. And that if she refunds the money it will cause a hardship on her due to having to find a family for the dog since I no longer want it (when it isn't even a dog I wanted as it met none of the requirements I set in what dog I wanted and she has 2 people waitlisted behind me that want the dog). She said the deposit is non refundable and non negotiable so I have officially learned a $625 lesson that I need to be far more careful in picking a breeder as I picked very wringly this go round. I can't believe this happened. I mean through her negligence she has killed over 10 puppies in 2 breedings but apparently that is not grounds for me backing out of her breeding. So I guess I bought her a damn coach bag or something. Yippee for me.

No. Nothing was signed. Howerever it was clearly stated on her website and in email that the deposit was non refundable. I just didnt realize that implied no end timeframe whatsoever or any loophole (such as the immense issues her litters have had).

I might be wrong but how can you enforce a contract that has not been signed, I would look into that if I were you.

When you purchase something and the rciept says no refunds you didn't sign anything.

I was informed it was non refundable via email and her website prior to sending in the money. I simply did not know the full implications of the non refundable status. Some seem to think I should go to small claims court but I don't see how I could win. Maybe I will look into it further.

It is my opinion that breeders that require non-refundable deposits before the pups / calves / piglets are on the ground are not reputable.

Breeders with 4-6hrs of Chattanooga ... well, there are LOTS of potential breeders. Why don't you share some of your expectations for a breeder and a pup. Depending on your answers, I may have a couple of ideas for you.

I just want a male brindle em. Itll be a pet (and if in the future my mother in law moves in it may end up being shown once or twice cause she loves that stuff so needs to meet the breed standard description). I would prefer he be from health tested lines. But mainly a pet to join my family of my wife, myself, and our 2 cats.

First red flag that came up for me with hocus pocus was the entire loss of that first litter second was when I found out about that offa site (i think thats it) and couldnt find a single dog of hers on it even though she supposedly health tests her breeders (sadly she already had my deposit before this so I hoped I could ride it out and be lucky). Didnt work out and as she has non refundable deposit and all deposits will br rolled to the next breeding if your specifications are not met I have been told I fo not really have any options that would result in my money being returned.

What sort of internet searches have you done?

I would encourage you to reach out to the board of directors of the SSMR (Southern States Mastiff Rescue). They would have the best handle on the reputable breeders in your neck of the world.

I had been looking for a while and only found 2 breeders near me (umo grande and hocus pocus). Never thought of checking a rescue site for a breeders list. Thanks

Pointedly, reach out to Jennifer Patterson (Crossroads Mastiffs) and Rachel Vann Nelson (Terremere Mastiffs). While neither is in your back yard, they both could be good resources for you.
