I tell you, I think dachshunds are extremely sensitive to death. When my parents smooth hair girl passed at 7 years, their longhair girl grieved for the remainder of her life. They got Gracie when Mae was about 2 years old & Mae basically mothered Gracie. When Mae died, Grace wouldn't play, or do anything. It's like she lost her desire to live. She was diagnosed with cushings shortly after & declined rapidly over the couple years she lived without Mae, we ended up putting her down at the exact age Mae was. Her quality of life was non-existent & it was the best thing for her. It was extremely upsetting to our family. When we got Gracie's ashes returned to us, we had the place create a custom box big enough to hold both her & Mae's ashes so they could be reunited.

Hugs to you & your family. I imagine it was very upsetting to everyone. :(

Chuck I am so sorry for your families loss. And the job going to India that is exactly what happened to me after 11 years. Tell your wife to hang in there it will get better.

Sorry for your loss. We lost Solstice in Aug 12. He was a 14 yr old daschund. His running mate Inde , also a daschund, turned 16 on the 4th of July. The worst pain I have ever felt. Messed me up for over a week. I couldn't eat or sleep until he came home from the crematorium. We lighted a candle next to his picture until he was home safely. I still shed tear for him.

RIP Slim! Sending healing to your wife, chuck, I know the pain of loss, like probably everyone else here!
The good thing is, Slim's in a happier place, without any pain or suffering, reunited with Buddha! :)

Thanks guy's. At least he livid a long life yea... When we got him he was already 3 or 4. He spent his first years chained to a orange tree. We called him our refugee. Little rogue ass. He was not really mine but the wifes. But he was my responsibility more or less. He got up in the morning and went to the shop. Always making me wait till he stretched and wondered his ass on. At night same thing in reverse. Want to stop to piss and get a drink. Always on his time. Seemed like he wanted to be a pain in the ass. It's funny in a twisted kinda way. He done the same to me in death. Went to the very last place I would look. Make me searc the whole 2.5ac with a flash light. I always say I like heathens and slim was no exception. He did things on his time. He was a good dog and even his pain in the ass way's are missed.
