Researching Presas

Hello again everyone. I'm still doing research on a few molossers, one of which I may potentially have in the next year or two. Still looking into Dogos but I'm also starting to look into Presa Canarios. One thing for certain, I do not want a male Presa canario so with that said, are there any differences in the temperaments of males and females? Generally speaking, are females less dominant/more placid? I know I would not be able to take on a male but I'm way more comfortable with the idea of getting a female because I've heard they tend to be better with children and yes, I know all the rules of children and dog safety. We have this down to a science in my house. I was just curious and may delve a little deeper into learning about them.

Temperament will depend more on lineage than male/female. Check with some reputable breeders and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction for what you're looking for in a pup :)

May be a clich* but i think that females are more "homely", can think of a better word for it; they usually stay closer to the home and are more protective of it and the kids. Males seem to wander a lot more and are more feisty.

Well Gemmy, I guess my Presa's are the complete opposite of what you've heard or what you think. I have a 10 month male and a 3 month female. My male is great around kids, the kids in my neighborhood love him. He's very protective of me, the house and watches any stranger that comes around. He's really laid back until something suspicious happens, then he's on guard. My female has yet to warm up to anyone, she barks at the kids and other dogs that come too close to the house. She's more feisty...she instigates the wrestling with the male. It really depends on the dog's temperament...like Cobalt mentioned, once you fine a breeder, just explain to them what you're looking for. If they're good, they'll give you the advice you're seeking. But I don't think you can go wrong with either one...male or female...they're both Presa Canario's so the instinct will kick in. Good luck on your research.

Thank you guys :) Yes, I'm going to get in touch with some breeders in the near future. It's really hard deciding what breed to get. Dogos and Cane Corsos are also in my bracket but I have awhile before I set in stone what I'm going to get. All three breeds have qualities I like, it's just a matter of choosing what's right for us.

To be honest, I do want another female dog. I lost my Shar Pei Cinnamon almost 3 years ago. I loved her dearly and from what I saw with her, she was a lot more sharp than our current male but sweet as could be. I may get another in the future but getting a female pei right now would just break my heart a little.

But yes, Presas are beautiful and I'm going to contact breeders in the meantime.

I hear that Males are more protective over turf while females are more protective over their people. I have noticed this in mine. I have a 10 month old female, when she was younger kids freaked her out. I already had a male mix pup, if i hadn't already had him i would have gotten a male. I also hear that female are harder to train and more stubborn, which is also proving to be the case for me.

Google is your friend!
We live in a great time in history having the Internet for a resource.
Check everything out that you can about the breed you are looking at.

Thank you but I have already researched them up on google and did not find the info I was looking for which is why I posted here. It shouldn't hurt to ask.
