Reputable Neapolitan Mastiff Breeder

Hi everyone

New member here

I found this forum after searching for reputable Neapolitan mastiff breeders.

I am planning for a female puppy but not for about 24 months yet. I do have experience with this breed.

Unfortunately it is a minefield when it comes to this breed as they have myriad health issues and I will be very selective this time round and am prepared to wait for the right mating.

I'm from UK (willing to import) and these are my requirements:

Mother and father hip tested, eye tested, heart tested
Standard type, not typey and DEFINITELY not excessive
No excessive flank and no loose skin around joints.
Dogs must look and be athletic and not sloppy.
Both parents must not have had cherry eye or treatment for it with veterinary proof
No ectropion and no entropion visible on either parent

Must be registered of course

If anyone can offer assistance or knows of a breeder who meets all these requirements I would be extremely grateful

Thanks!

I'm sorry I can't help you. We haven't had any active Neo members for quite some time. I'm sure you've done looking yourself. Have you come across anyone that looks good to you? If so, I'd be happy to take a look at them and see if I see any red flags. I'm no expert at anything, but I'm very careful with breeder choice. Too picky, I've been told, lol. I'm sure our other members would give their opinions too. Good luck with your search.

Hello!

Sorry, I thought I would receive email notifications so didn't think anyone had replied until I checked!

Maybe we are in the same boat then about being strict on the health testing.

I have really really searched hard and I haven't found anyone in the UK who I would feel comfortable getting a pup from. It's sad but with this breed, I really think it is important to be picky. There seems to be a complete lack of care for their health and more of a focus on their looks.

I have even looked globally and I'm telling you it is an absolute minefield.

Part of me is actually considering having to prepare for never being able to have one again. As much as I love this breed it would be irresponsible of me to purchase a dog whose parents I feel should not have been bred.

Thanks for your reply

Thanks - I agree. It is such a shame the turn mastiff breeds can take.. all in the name of breed standards and romanticised fictional looks.

Totally agree, iv looked on the advertising sites for mastiffs, i wouldnt purchase a single one, its gone crazey during this last year, every owner thinks they are a breeder,

Enough with the sanctimonious, virtue signaling. Now for op ...if you don't mind buying stateside mastini mayhem is good, if you wernt so intent on papers Forte mollosers is as good as you'll find anywhere in the world, there stuff is about 75 % neo 25% bandog from lines based in neo. They are not only health tested but extensively performance tested and stress tested on protection scenarios as well...true temperament tested not some cgc crap. Also you can find some really good ones on south America doing estate guarding and Evan hunting...yep neos ...hunting ...I was shocked when I saw the photos...it was like looking at 1950s neos no dumb wrinkle blinding them you could see the muscle thru the skin...the muscle matched the bone...cool stuff...but if you ain't gona travel to Argentina or such ....I'd get over the psychological need for registration and check out Forte mollosers....another couple of leads , again stateside and no papers are Moran mollosers and Midgard mastiffs...any of the three will out live and out fight any papered neo you can buy in the northern hemisphere.
