Puppy biting- shock collar??

Update! :) So the trainer evaluated Kuna and we discussed other methods of getting him to stop the puppy biting. We've worked the "out" and "leave it" commands. Our trainer warned us that e-collars are very controversial and that I would probably get a huge variety of responses on here. I do have to say that I trust our trainer, he's done brilliant work with our american bulldog and several other dogs we know so we will follow his guidance. We do have the e-collar here but we have not had to use it. It seemed like as soon as we discussed the biting with the trainer Kuna decided to stop, lol. Also, as soon as he starts mouthing me now if he doesn't stop after re-direction he's put into his crate for a time out. He's been doing really well though. Thanks for all the insight from everyone. :)

I am so glad to hear thing are improving. There is a light at the end of the tunnel :p

Highly recommend you NEVER put a shock collar on a puppy or any dog for that matter. There are many different ways to train bite control. I think everything that can be said has been said with one exception.....I recommend any person who would consider ecollars/shock collars wear them themselves first so they know exactly what their dog/puppy is going to receive and feel by way of shock and then decide. I think you will find that this is not a neccessary training aid.

I understand everyone has different opinions about things and that's the beauty of this forum. :) We did put the collar on ourselves first as the trainer ran it through the different settings so we knew what it felt like ourselves. I think that you're absolutely right, if you're going to use it you should know how it feels.
