Pup eating Poop... And some other observations.

Our 10 month old BM has developed a bad habit of eating poop. This is something new as she only started doing it about 6 weeks ago. I've read numerous things as to what it could be. We currently feed her Taste of the Wild food, and we supervise her eating raw bones a couple times a week (we freeze and thaw). I know this is not uncommon amongst dogs but was just curious as to what your take is on it. Its so bad, that when our other dog poops she runs over to him to try and get it immediately (he doesn't like this). We control this by keeping her on leash most of the time, but when we go to dog park or somewhere where they are off leash she is on a pooping dog immediately. Any thoughts? Ideas to help with this? Lack of nutrients in diet? Also, what are your thoughts on raw bones? Our pitbull broke a tooth on a raw bone and we had to have it pulled. She loves here bones but I'm hesitant about rawhides as she tries to swallow them before they are finished. Lastly, an odd observation, she is so food motivated that we get her to listen better without food than when we try and reward her with food. She gets so excited at the site of a treat that she barely wants to sit or lay down, etc. She solely focuses on eating the treat. But when we ask her to do it without a treat, she responds immediately! Odd...

On the bright side you don't have to clean up after your other dog:eek:
I really got nothing else and the poop eating by dogs remains one of the mysteries of life, my pup loves horse, cow and chicken poop. Eats all he can til he gets sick.
Maybe you can try feeding her more? Go to a lower quality food that makes her full? I don't know which Taste of the Wild you are feeding, but I was told to stick with a protein content less than 30%. You don't want her to grow too fast and out grow her joints, more than one breeder told me that. My 9 month old is 104 lbs and eating 6 cups of food a day and he won't eat more than that unless he is really active.
How much are you feeding?
What is her weight?
I found out I can get TOTW in town, but staying away from it because it is higher protein.
Glad to hear that she still minds and is willing to work without a treat and a kind word and gentle loving rub is worth more than a treat!

There's an additive you can add to the food that makes the poop no longer palatable for the pup. I had this problem with my male when he was younger. It started with his own, it was a process, but every time he went I had to tell him no and leave it then give him praise when he did, took months but now he goes and immediately runs to me to get his praise. We are still working on him leaving his sisters alone, she starts to go and he runs over trying to get it before it hits the ground, I didn't want to work through it on leash, I want him to have the ability to do the wrong thing but chose not to. He is worlds better now, what makes it tough is when he approaches her as she's going and I correct him it disturbs her business. I can't remember the last time he tried to eat his own, he probably bothers his sister about 1-2 times a weeks now, down from 21-25 times a week so we are making progress. He is now 8 1/2 months old, I had seen him do it on full stomach pleanty of times I've read a couple places it's a habit that can be picked up from the mother as she cleans the pups including poops when they are little. I did not go the route of the food additive because it just wasn't how I wanted to handle it but I've heard of some having great success and other none at all

Its the TOTW pacific stream blend, protein content is 27%. This specific one was receommended to me by members on the forum here. We feed her based on the bag, she is 70 lbs at 10 months, and gets 4 cups a day. She is on the small side for the breed, but she was the runt and her mom was only 90 lbs. Hoping she gets to 90 lbs!
