Pronunciation of Cane Corso

I have to admit I usually just say "corso", cause otherwise I inevitably end up in an arguemet with someone over the pronunciation lol

Just tell them its an overlarge Pit Bull! JK:lolbangtable:
I get tired or saying things over and over, and usually default to italian mastiff. But if someone is really interested in knowing the correct name, I tell them.. But only once!

The question I hate is "Does your dog bite?" (Like you would say yes in the first place) I answer saying "Only the people I tell her to" with a hearty laugh!

Seriously, why would you ask such a thing? If my dog does bite, would I admit it? Or is that just the lawyer in me coming out?

Either way, they are beautiful dedicated dogs, no matter what you call them!

I currently live in Europe and you wouldn't believe how many europeans pronounce it incorrectly. I swear I have correct someone at least twice a week. I say it once and walk away...'ka-nay corso'...have a nice day:)

I didn't know I was pronouncing it wrong either. Why don't we blame it on the person who decided to spell it the way most of us would pronounce it? I wonder why they wouldn't spell it differently in the first place.

I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic :), but the spelling isn't something that originated out of English...it would be pronounced naturally to someone that speaks Italian.

As someone who is devoted to the politics of language, I wonder if the Anglicized pronunciation should not be seen as correct, given we say things like af-GAN-is-tan instead of (this is my rough imitation) IF-gahn-is-tan and consider this correct (this applies to other countries and other proper nouns). If anyone is an NPR, PRI, or really BBC fan, you've likely heard proper nouns pronounced in their native accent artfully by the reporters, even when you've heard those proper nouns anglicized by most media. Just a thought.

It doesn't really bother me when people say Cain Corso, I'll just work Kahney Corso back into the conversation and they'll usually ask if that's the correct pronunciation. What does bother me is that I'm so used to saying Kahney that when I read cane I say in my head Kahney. Like walking kahney, sugar kahney, Christmas kahney.....

I always politely inform people of the correct pronunciation. After whoever it is doesn't get it I just say italian mastiff. My favorite response....more then once has been "oh my so and so has a cane (as in candy cane) corso. They look the same"

Yes! ^^^ I lived in Italy for a couple of years, this is years ago, but I always say Ka-ne. And even when I am talking to people who are familiar with the breed in the U.S., they always try to correct me by saying kah-ney, or something like that, lol, as if they know the proper way to say. But whatever, I always say the way I know the Italians would say it, and will continue. ;)

I've always pronounced it Kah-nay but most people including the vet and vet tech who owns one pronounce it "Cain". I pronounce it my way, even explaining it they still say Cain so oh well. But I have seen the Akc shows where it sounds more like Ka-ne so I've been confused as well.

It seems to me that the pronunciation of the "e", is difficult for Anglo speaking tongue, so many have to say "ay" to make it sound kind of like it's pronounced in the Italian alphabet. Maybe this might help in correct pronunciation.

Now I'm confused. In the clip above, he says "cah-nay," but I thought it was "khan-yeh"?
