Does anybody on the forum own one? I was just doing a little research. Are they good dogs? I mean i know they have a bad rep, but are they really that bad?

There are a couple Presa owners on here,I've never owned one, but I've done an extensive amount of reading and researching on them. From what I've read/seen they're just as much (probabaly more so) as serious guard dog than the CC! There is alot of contreversy between the whole "dogo vs. Presa thing AKA working vs. show. Some people view the presa and dogo a different breed at this point. If you truely want to learn about the Presa go check out elpresa.com , some of the members can be a little bit on the blunt side. But that is probably the best place to learn about the Presa. But overall the Presa is not for a first time dog owner. I'd say get some mastiff experience before you consider a dog of that caliber.

My old boss had a Presa named Drako. Besides eating his girlfriends interior on the car when he was left alone for to long (meaning about ten minutes lol) he was a pretty sweat dog but he was definitely not to be messed with and needed a firm owner as he was fairly hard willed. As was said earlier, definitely not for a novice dog owner but from my limited experience I would say that they get an over exagerated bad rap.

Just to clarify you are talking the Dogo Canario and NOT the Dogo Argentino. Usually when one refers to the Dogo they are speaking of the latter. Just to avoid any confusion for anyone :)

I thought of replying with something along these lines as well.Thinking in my head "they sure as hell are two different breeds" But then thought, why even bother replying. heh

Yep, you're right. My appoligies for any confusion, I meant to type Dogo Canario, SORRY! You are also right normally when people say "dogo" they are refering to the Dogo Argentino. But in this case (when talking about the Presa) When people say Dogo they're usually talking about the Dogo Canario! I really didn't think anyone would confuse the Dogo Argentino with Presa Canario, they're obviously a different breed and to me do not have that many simmilarities.

Kevin- Why did you even comment if there is no point? To concur with Cody and sound smart?Or was it to make me sound less intelligent? Do you have Any actual useful info on this topic?

Actually I did it cause the thought in my head, of a Presa being similar to a dogo Argentino was humors. I don't think it sounds smart to point out the obvious, nor do I care enough to try and make you look unintelligent. If I was going to add Useful info I would point out the Presa was a fighting dog. Unlike the Corso a Presa will charge another dog. the fact you think I would go out of my way try and make you look bad ,is an interesting theory, Makes me wonder if you often have problems with people?

Nah I don't have too many problems with people. It was just the last part of your post made me kind of think that. "why even bother replying. Heh. I really don't want to argue. Good point about the dog fighting history and the dog agression.

Kevin-The fact that you didnt reply to the confusing dogo remark, but then remarked unnecessarily after someone already cleared the air and then put the "heh" at the end, does kinda seem like you went out of your way to be negative in some way. Just saying I can totally see where Cane Corso is coming from. Then you got a lil snappy after he asked to, so maybe its just your personality that your not aware of that is kinda abrasive.

I am a first time Presa owner. Riddick is now a bit over 10 months/125 lbs and I couldn't be happier. He came from Cabeza Grande Kennels. Yes, he is a bit "anxious" around other dominant male adult dogs but he's great with children and small dogs. I'd definitely recommend an owner who's gona stay on top of their Presa to kep him/her grounded. The neighbor to our left owns a 2 year old Neo and next to them they own a 4 year old Rott and a 3 year old bluenosed pit. Riddick has gotten into a few tussles with the Neo and the Pit. The Pit charged him in our own front yard and the Neo just wasn't in the mood for Riddick's playfulness. As far as people ago he's great but does get a bit on-guard at night for some reason. I've added new pics and a few vids on his thread.

haha yes sir, just been busy with my new hours at work. meant to stop in earlier too. yes, Riddick is a beast, he went thru some weird personality stages. when he was a 10 week old pup, he was fearless and showed alot of signs of a natural guarding instinct but when he hit 6-8 months, he went thru a fearful stage. he's definitely grown out of that and coming into his own now. hope you've been great!

Nothing to add but I was going to say, "Looks like someone is taking the fighting nature of the JRT to heart." Be careful, CaneCorso will turn on you like a Jack with a possum. LOL, just kidding. :p

I met one Presa, beautiful dog but I know very little about them, except what I have written for a dog site. There I just stressed, not a breed for new or timid owners.

Thanks everybody who took up for me, I appreciate it. If it wasn't for Kevin getting at me in another thread in a simmilar fashion, I wouldn't of even said anything. Just would of corrected what I said and let it go. But I have to say I do get a little annoyed when people have to take things said on a forum and make them personal. There is no need for that IMO. Luckily, I am not like my little JRT myself ! If I was I would of already threatened a few people and challenged several more to a fight:) LOL. But that is not the case I believe in live and let live LOL .
