Prayers for Fort MacMurray

I don't know if there is anyone on this board from Fort MacMurray Alberta Canada on here, but the people of that city can use all the good wishes and prayers that they can get. The whole city of 60,000 people have been put on a mandatory evacuation from a wildfire that is taking over the city. Please pray for these poor people who have not only lost their jobs in the oil fields due to the downturn in the economy, but are now losing their homes and the city they call home! If you do a search on google the news reports and photos are incredibly scary!

The Whole City??? Holy S#!T!
I saw some video last night on the news... but... dang. I'll start a rain dance and see if we can send some drenchers up their direction!!
Yikes!!!

I've been watching news reports since noon yesterday and it is incredible how fast things went really bad. Latest report I saw had 1600 homes/businesses destroyed, more damaged and fire only grew worse today.
There are 2 additional fires out of control and another has warnings out in northern alberta.
On the positive side it is believed that there have been no injuries or deaths due to the fire/evacuation.

It's absolutely terrifying. It's going to be a long, hot summer this year, too. I have a feeling that this is only the beginning for both AB and BC.

I can't believe that this news made it overseas as well! The city is still completely evacuated and they are bringing some of the evacuees to Calgary and Edmonton. I work for a great corporation, The City of Calgary, who have sent our emergency operations centre up to help as well as firefighters and other first responders. I also have a firefighter friend from another town who has taken a truck and crew up to help with the fight. On the Facebook page for L.E.A.S.H. Animal Welfare Society they have a great photo of some evacuee's and their pets on a Canadian North flight being evacuated, they allowed all the animals to fly in the cabin with their owners (sorry I don't know how to post links). It's been truly incredible to see how all of Canada is stepping in to help this city. My heart just breaks for anyone who has to go through a tragedy such as this!

Federal and Provincial Government are matching all donations to Red Cross, which means your $5 donation is actually a $15 donation! I also heard that Tim Hortons, The Flames hockey team and Oilers hockey team each donated $100,000. I heard a very interesting argument yesterday regarding the forest fires. Why does the government not put money into the clean-up of logging? They put tons of money into logging, but nothing into the cleanup afterward. The fallen dead trees and brush are all just fuel for these fires. It's not to say that it would stop forest fires, but it would help to mitigate the severity of the forest fires. I thought it was an interesting argument.
