AB you should have been there. Things would have gone differently. I'd never seen it before and really couldn't tell where it was from. The smaller dog it was with was absolutely a stray. After It disengaged from me and let me turn my back and run it followed the stray toward the woods.

Later on after you know what, I was flabbergasted that it got up and headed back into the neighborhood and into the back yard of the home where I'd first encountered it.

What few brief moments that I took to assess things I was dead wrong about an animal breed to behave in a way that I had no frame of reference on. It must be really awesome to have a Fila bonded to you.

It sounds like you have done a lot of research on the breed. They are everything and more of what you have read about them. I'm no expert on Fila's but with the research I did, one of the reasons I went with a Fila for a protection dog is they are not apt to go chase someone down for the hell of it, like Pitts, Rotts, ect. In fact you would be hard pressed to find any reports of Fila's attacking people.

It sounds as if this dog was usually kept on his own property and had accidentally gotten out. If this is the case and they have had the dog for a few years and this was a first then yes, they deserve another dog. If they just threw it in the back yard and never paid it attention or made sure the surrounding were secure. Then I stand by my statement. They don't deserve a dog.

I also feel sorry for you. You are kind of hard to decipher but if I'm reading you right you are not bragging about killing the dog. Although at times it seems like it. I just think you are very defensive.

Has the owner of the dog told you where he got is Fila?

That topic will be very hard to broach but I'll be needing to make contact very soon. I obviously will reflect long and soberly over my thoughts as reconciliation day comes. Far moreso than the way I've communicated here. Have you ever lashed out in a normal tone and didn't plan to or expect it to happen? I expect some stinging words from the dogs family.

First you say it was in the middle of the street, then you say it "headed back into the neighborhood and into the back yard of the home where I'd first encountered it. Really, which story is it??? So did it never ever dawn on you to call the animal control? Still havent answered my question, why were YOU charged if the dog chased you down and tried to attack you????

The biggest strongest soldier in my unit was so disappointed in me fila4me. His chosen companion is a lap sized of breed that I can't even name right now. To him these little dogs guard the fragile parts of who he is in a really big way. They would never let harm come to him in any way; all 6 foot 230 pounds of him. How could I strip such a sacred bond away from a person or animal?

Simple. A big error. I'm a bit beyond shame though you see. This animal was bonded to a young boy. Few of us know about the wrongful death of a boy's dog. Very few.

you want what's on my mind......no matter what kind of dog owner this dog had, you shooting the dog was wrong.

I have been attacked by a great dane, no owner in sight and this boy was serious. when I finally got away from him and put a fence in between us,my 1st reaction was not to go to my car and get my gun!!!! I called 911!!! I let them come and deal with the dog. You protecting yourself, I understand. if said gun was on your person at the time you felt threatened, by all means protect yourself. but, for you to be able to get into the safety of your home, get your weapon,go back out and shoot said dog, no argument you make will change any minds. you deserve what you get.

if anyone has the misfortune to do this to one of my dogs, with all of the same set up as has been told, I would shoot them. plain and simple. if person had evidence of bodily harm from my dog, that would be a different story.

The only element of cruelty to non-livestock animals that needed to be satisfied in order to convict is a intention to kill. The previous history of aggression towards people isn't addressed in the non-livestock statue. I.E. the attack didn't matter. I made it to safety then ran back outside; not OK.

As far as the sequence of events, I estimate that the dogs pursuit of me then my pursuit of it covered about 600 Meters in roughly a minute leading up to my blunder. Following that the dog's trot home took another minute. The initial encounter was in the middle of the street where the dog lived, I vaguely recall.

I called the cops first but...after events unfolded.

What is the most afraid that you have ever been?

I'm very sorry. You are most definitely part of the problem. It is certainly not your place to demand, "show me the bitemarks."

If I say your baby attacked me and you can't accept that without seeing bitemarks then I guess we would have to find out if you really truly value dog blood over human blood. I committed a Class A misdemeanor I doubt that shooting a person carries such a penalty. Who taught you to err in favor of the animal? I know someone here knows what a Fila is capable of...."like putting a gun in the hand of a child"

No maam. You are about as entitled to see my bite marks as I am to ensure that your fence is secure.
