Hi everyone! I have a female Cane Corso that was born on November 22 2014 and my wife bought her for me as a Valentines gift on February 10th of this year. Two weeks into owning and loving her, we got her ears cropped. Obviously she was in a cone because of it and little did we know that she was a climber. We placed her upstairs with our male Cane Corso and we blocked off the stairs by putting a baby gate at the top of the steps to clean up the main part of our house as it was raining outside at the time. She climbed over the baby gate, fell down the steps and broke her elbow and really almost lost her leg. The Vet was AMAZING in saving her leg BUT that required her to be in a crate where she couldn't move at all to keep the splint on and as to not move around a loosen the screw that is keeping her elbow together for 12 weeks. After 12 weeks she was good to go and free again to be a puppy. We worked with her in a nice slow steady manner to get her atrophied leg built up and to reduce the amount of limping she will permanently have.Once the splint was off, she weighed in at 35 lbs and the vet stated she shouldn't be stunted in growth and that she is slightly under weight but now that she is able to move around and burn off energy, she should eat more. And she did, she ate A LOT. Now here I am looking at her just past 11 months and wondering what is going on, why is she not growing? She eats constantly, she has no worms or any parasite and the vet says she is healthy for her size BUT she is just 51 lbs. AT 11 MONTHS!!! The Vet says she still has time to grow and she estimates that our Savannah will be in the mid 90's when she is done growing and filled out.My male at this time in age was pretty much done growing. He grew maybe an inch more and weighed in at 105 at the time. He is 115 now and even though I think he is small for the breed, his mom and dad that I know personally and really well, are also under weight because of the hyperness and the amount of exercise they get. Ares is no different. He is 4 now and still hyper as ever and needs to be walked 2 hours a day and play at the park for an hour before he calms down.So here is where my worries come in now that I have given the complete back story thus far. Savannah is half his size, still looks like a puppy, still skinny with her ribs showing, even though she eats 4 to 5 full adult bowls a day, and the vet says she has nothing wrong. Did her breaking her leg so young really stunted her growth or is there something else at fowl here or am I just over worrying? I have no clue as I'm basing everything off of Ares who was done growing at a year old and the vet says not to worry because Cane Corsos can take up to 2 years to finish growing and that she is probably one of them. Savannah just finished her first heat as I am planning on breeding them but if she remains this small, I will get her fixed as I believe it would be inhumane to breed her.So is the vet right? Am I worrying too much or am I right to worry? I need advice from other Cane Corso owners. The owner of Ares mom and dad who is my friend says I'm right to worry as they were done growing at year 1. And the people my wife got Savannah from is unreachable. The only proof I have that she is a full Cane Corso is her litter registration form for the ICCF International Cane Corso Foundation I believe but don't quote me. So please please please help me figure this out so I can quit worrying and figure out the right course for her. We love her so much and she is going no where but like I said, I want to breed Cane Corso as I love them and if she is not going to grow anymore, I need to get her fixed and plan on finding a mate for Ares. Thank you again for the help! I really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!I'm posting this on my phone and when I get home, I'll upload a photo of the two of them as for some reason, trying to upload from my phone is not working

My EM had surgery on his elbow at 16 months old for elbow dysplasia. He didn't put on any weight and in fact I had to fight to stop him from losing weight for the next 4-5 months as he healed. After that he slowly started to put on weight again.
I know it's not the same as your girl but he had still been putting on 3-4 lbs a week before his surgery. At 3.5 years he is still growing. You girl could just be a slower grower than your male naturally and then have been set back time wise by her recovery.

These breeds take until at least 2 years old to be full grown, some even 3. Our male corso will be 3 in April and has stopped growing height wise and seems to be done weight wise as well.

They will continue to grow for 2-3 years. I wouldn't worry if she isn't the size you think she should be at only 11 months. Not to pry but why breed them? What do they offer to the breed besides your love for th breed? Do you do any agility work, show or therapy work? Will they enhance the breed? If you aren't even able to get in touch with the people you got Savannah from, do you think breeding is a good idea? And you describe Ares as "underweight"...does he even meet the breed standard? Sorry if I come off as a PITA...I just think so many people want to breed but are doing it for the wrong reasons...JMO

My son has a female Cane Corso fully grown that is 65 pounds. What she lacks in size she makes up for in her energy level and endurance.
