  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Pigeons.

I'm just now having a conversation about meat sources with a person on another raw feeding page and he is stating that he feeds baby rats. Both alive and dead.
Gross.
But that got us in to the idea of feeding vermin and pigeons sprung to mind.
If you live in the country then chances are a local farmer has problems with wood pigeons or other vermin birds eating his crops.
If you can find the person said farmer pays good money to shoot these pests then you can find your self a very cheap source of meat.
Birds,rabbits et all.
I used to get pigeons for £1 for ten. Whilst I've yet to have a dog tat would eat them whole many other have and for the weight of them I'd guess that would make feeding about 30p a day during the season.
I had to strip the breasts and dry them but they made awesome training treats.

Interesting. I thought intestinal worms were an issue with eating wild caught vermin and such. We had thought about contacting a pest control company and asking what they do with the rabbits, moles, voles etc after being trapped live but hesitated due to the possible worms. Would love to hear other opinions on this.

I'd be sure to hard-freeze any wild game to kill parasites... and it'd be a good idea to check with the local game warden for any other special local issues (i.e. mad cow disease)... and also get a metal detector so you know you get all the buckshot out of the bird before feeding it to the dog.

Otherwise... I guess you could... but... I think I'll pass, personally. :p
